Jippy, it started first time

I've picked up a 3000V6 SWB Gen 2 for 25K and the project began. This baby was on tressles for three years after the diff packed up. All the diff spares were rusted and I got it with in buckets. So, I went to Part Hunt in PTA and picked up a complete diff for 5k (is this a good deal???).
I had both drive shafts & CV's serviced for R800 at a place here by us.
Yersterday, after I had replaced the solenoid on the starter motor I tried to start it with the brand new 650 battery. Guess what? it started as if it was parked for only a weekend. I am worried because the was a lot of smoke comming from the exause. After I've put in engine flush and let it iddle for 10 min (as per instruction on the bottle) before shutting down it seems like the smoking stopped. Then I've changed the oil & filter and started it again. The smoking is much less hence it is still there though. Can it be because of the old fuel (still a half tank of 3 year old petrol in there). Will it get better once I get it on the road again.
The engine run very smooth with not any miss. sound great jong.
After trying to put in the diff the problems started. The bottom cross member is in after a battle (the one with the two bolts at either side. The front mountings (those two arms) fitted well. Now the centre mounting of the diff is 20mm out. That is the one with the one bolt at the bottom. Can it be that the chassis is bend maybe? I've tried and even looked at my LWB Gen 2. That is the way it should go in.
What I do, (because this is my first time working on this area of the Gen 2) is to park my Gen 2 LWB nose to nose to the SWB and do the "copy and paste" thing. It helps a lot though.
Any ideas? Smoking, diff etc
