I live in the Kalahari region, thus frequently travelling on badly corrugated gravel roads.
My GEN 4 really suffers on these type of surfaces - basically getting shaken to pieces. Had the shocks tested, which seem fine.
I measured that the dashboard acutually moves by +- 50 mm when travveling these roads.
Rear seats are loose, internal covers falling of, etc, etc.
I would like to determine if other GEN 4 owners experience similar issues.
What tyre pressures do you use?

The manual states 2 bar for my gen3 Di-D but driving dirt everyday makes that a harsh ride. I now have them on 1.7bar permanently and it makes a HUGE difference!
How in heavens name did you manage to measure the dash so precisely?? I have trouble holding on to the steering wheel, let alone measure dash movements while driving on some corrugated roads and my car is still in one piece, OK mine is a 2001 Gen3, but still much the same platform is used. Which internal covers fell off?? Are you sure the rear seats are properly clipped in?

There is a sign at the Kgalagadi entrance at the fuel pumps, Twee Rivieren (ie in prime Kalahari), which states 1.3 bar must be used for roads inside the park(IIRC). Obviously this is for the park where your speed should be relaxed, but the point is. : I agree 100% Tyre pressure is extremely important. I have the same problem. though cannot say it is 50 mm. Asked Brooklynn Mitsubishi to look at it, they have tightened everything and seems just a little better but not much

Finally someone with similar issues to mine. I had to sell my Gen 3 last year because of the vibration on the steering wheel and dashboard. I have now bought a 2004 Shogun from the UK (40,000 miles since new) and guess what....same thing. Just came back from the Masaai Mara this weekend and the corrugation is bad there. You can barely hold onto the steering. But having done this in my old Gen 2 before, i can 100% say there is a problem with the Gen 3 & 4 or simply they are a lot weaker!
Here is what you can try. First check the play on the steering rack. I tightened up mine a little and it helped. Second, get someone to check the dashboard, tighten it up and add a few extra spring washers if they can. Third, the roof lining seems to come loose easily (around the sun roof). Try and bang in the clips again, it will make a huge difference to the rattle inside the car. Don't know much about the rear seats, but my front windows rattle like mad unless completely closed.
I am now resigned to the fact that the Gen 3 & 4 are not made the same as the Gen 2.

I have the GEN 2 LWB and I am amazed to hear that you found your previous GEN 2 less bumpy on the Kgalagadi roads that the GEN 4. I am trying to find a solution for my GEN 2 because it felt to me if the vehicle was falling apart when driving those extremely corrugated roads. Everybody wants to sell me different suspension (Ironman and OME mostly) but I am not convinced that it will give me a softer ride experience. I have replaced the shocks with a new set of standard Monroe's before travelling to the Kalahari and I was very happy with the ride until I hit the corrugation. Have you received any good advise on this since your last post.
