2007 BK Fuel Consumption/EGR/DPF/Tyre Size

I have recently upgraded from 2001 Colt Rodeo 2.8TD 4x4 to 2007 Pajero LWB BK. I have read a bit about this vehicle and have number of questions, which I will be posting on 4x4Community as well as Pajero Club, any info/expereinces shared would be welcomed:
Fuel Consumption: First tank yielded average of 13liters/100km, for mostly very short in town trips (kids to school etc), on short trips one can get consumption up to 15liter/100km if not driven careful. Open road seems to average 10.5 – 11liters/100km (only done two highway trips yet). The in-town consumption is worse than anticipated (compared to Colt which gave 12liters all types of driving)
How does one know if the lock up function of the torque converter is working, and when does it lock? Should the revs remain constant during small throttle variations when torque converter is locked (and does that only happen when travelling open road, where same speed/rpm is maintained for long times)?
Has anybody disconnected the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). These are only required for emiisions controlled and have been known to cause engine failures on the Discovery TD5 if getting stuck in the open position. Dies it require any sort of electronic remapping if blocked off?
I have read an Aussie review where the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) apparently gave trouble, do our RSA BK Pajero’s come fitted with these, where is it located and what does it do? Can it be bypassed? This seems like the only reliability negative of the 2007 DiD I can find.
I currently have Bridgestone Dueler 684HT in 265/65/17. I would have loved to rather have 16”rims it does not look like it will fit over trhe front calipers. Do anybody run 16” on the BK? Does anybody run 265/70/17 or 265/75/17? If so would you recommend it? Does it affect consumption negatively? I'm leaning towards 265/65/17 BF All Terrains at the moment, anybody care to comment on these?
Regards
Henk
