hi there!

for those of you who had read my post, you know me as "mr questioner", so i will not go astray. :D

for some time i was pondering about the pajero assembly process and improvement.

let's take i.e the same model 3.2 did, different year, one was manufactured in 01\01\2010, the other is 01\01\2011.
does newer = better?

let's say there is some kind of glitch, some pipe isn't as reliable, or the 40gb HD is overheating in certain conditions, etc'. those sort of stuff, and the general public doesn't aware of them, but mitsubishi quality control knows.

are they secretly addressed & repaired?

just wandered if that is the case.

sorry if i'm bothering you, just really want to know.

all the best to you all.

nOmad,

I believe they continuously improve the product by learning from experience. Mitsu will recall a product if they see a risk. They are at present recalling Brake Accumulators of Gen3's even up to 250000 km on the clock!

My brake accumulator was fixed on recall at 260'000km as well.

As the years go by I think the main advancements are

electronics
luxury
lighter alloys
more refinement and economy (pressure from the tree huggers)

All decisions are made in the boardroom. That goes for any company, motor manufacturers to condom makers. Every board member will be heavy into shares of that particular company - that is often the biggest portion of their remuneration. He will wake-up, eat breakfast, go to lunch, get drunk with his mistress... everything, always thinking about the share price. Their greatest fear is the media and analysts.

So if they do a recall, it is because they think the potentail damage to the share price outweighs the little dip in declared profit. Conversely, if they think that they can manage the media and analysts, then they will not throw money at a defect, but ride it out.

The board couldn't care one bit about the product owner or the employee. All they care about is potential damage to the share price. Fortunately for us product owners, are the board members reliant on us buying their product and they need us to not go to the competing product, so we get good products and often good service and back-up.

Every motor enthusiast (which I think we are) should read Arthur Hailey's book "Wheels".

The interaction between all the role players (from engineering to personal matters) are combined into fiction, but with alot of insight into the industry.

That book is so old, I read it as a child together with "Airport". I'll have to dig it up again.
