Money.
It's not a lack of success that's causing Mitsubishi to drop out of the Dakar rally and other cross-country races for 2009. The brand cites the worldwide financial crisis and corporate belt-tightening as the reason it won't be competing in the races that helped to make it a household name in four-wheel drive performance.
I read it here.
Mitsubishi will no longer compete in the Dakar Rally for financial reasons, the company announced Wednesday.

The announcement came as Japan's fourth-largest automaker said its group net loss will amount to $670 million for the fiscal year through March 2009.

"The sudden deterioration of the global economy made it necessary for the company to focus its resources more tightly," Mitsubishi Motors said in a statement.
This I read here.

Mohammed Ali was the greatest. He proved his point and retired (sort of).

Mitsu did the same

Hê hê... I wonder whet your dad (and other VW owners) thinks of this....

I agree with you, of course. Except that I believe they are not retiring, but recuperating (financially). They'll be baaaack!

To me Mitsubishi & VW both exemplify engineering excellence.
I support both! (same as I support both the Titons and the Warriors) ;)
