A very sad day at side of road:

Good afternoon everyone.
I got hold of a beat up and broken 1995 Pajero Shogun from a scrap yard.
1995, 3500 LWB
33x12.5x15 BF Mud Terrain
Standard Auto Box
Standard Tranfere Case
Lexus 4.2 V8 Conversion done self
Various other bits and pieces.
Went thru all the trouble to get it going again, was proud as can be.
Did full Kruger trip December ( Pafuri - Krokodile) all went well.
Did Malonjedzi Lodge
Did Vaal River Trip.
Please note all towing our XT 140 trailer no incedent.
Went fly fishing in Dullstroom this weekend. Did some serious off roading all went well, still very proud.
Then we came back and just outside Middelburg, the most unussaul very alarming bang and plenty of grey oily smoke.
Yup: Lost oil pump or something bearings went mad and Conrod came to greet us with the hand.
So, here I am best fuel consumption ever being towed back to JHB by a Ford Ranger. Very bad for both my own and "Bosparra's" eggo.
Guys, I am proud of all things Pajero and you will hear a lot from me in the following Years.
Have plenty to do: Repair or change Torque converter
Check problem with gearbox overdrive
Get speedo working
Get rev counter working
Remove mouse from suspension
and then before I forget, put new smoke in old motor.
Best Regards Jaco

It cannot be!
Toyotas don't break, so the engines can't break either.
Sorry to hear.
Your best solution might be a sub-assembly from the scrap yard.
(or a Mitsubishi engine!)

Jaco,
Welcome here, and sorry to hear about the loss.
Hope you get her going soon!
Maybe you can plant a Mitsu-engine back, and save some money AND still get good mileage (check Here:
TOP GUNS and fair fuel consumption... ?

Jaco sorry to hear about the girl.
Get import Pajero motor cheaper than trying to get life into one toy motor.

Theunsb.
I am still finding my feet regarding the use of forums and how to work it.
Hope this is the correct way.
Need to find out I think my "BosParra" is gen 2?
Will open up this weekend ? not sure what I will find. and if work permits.
Can you please supply info on imported engines? I might even consider going diesel. Decided on Lexus motor because of cost for replacement. At the moment not sure witch way to go....
If I buy replacement Lexus cost of head-block-sump R2 500-00 since I have already done the ground work.
Please any advise will be appreciated. I will let you guys know what is damadge as soon as possible?
Cheers Jaco

That seems the logical route to follow. ($$$ wise)
Just add a (new) oil pump to the shopping list!

Will make very sure of new oil pump.......
If i do straight engine swap, will have some $$$ left for front and back diff change.
Looking for 4.9 ratio set. Think they are on the Diesel LWB got price from guy in PTA but very steep.
Would appreciate if you guys know of set looking for adventure and good home.
Will swap my set over Ratio 4.35 or something if not mistaken

Good evening guys.
Autopsy completed. Found time and cause of death. Motive still very unsure????
Engine outside with all the bits exposed. Big pool of blood around, both Pajero's and mine
At least brandy made mine feel beter not sure what to do for old girl, think I will leave the mud on for now?
No1 & No2 bigend caps found in sump badly bruised not sure what they are supposed to do there.
No1 conrod broken halfway up the shaft
No2 conrod end badly bend and broken in half
Nice hole behind air-con, reason for not finding it at roadside.
Checked oil pump and pickup they seem to be in good order
Engine not dry oil all around but still No1 journal badly burned and blued. No2 little bit better 50% at least. Suspect that No1 failed first and then No2
Need to find some answers soon, not keen on doing this job again soon, it inteferes badly with traveling plans.
So many places so little time.....
Please let me know of any ideas and, if i must start a new thread in a differant place ( please advise)
Would like to post some photos but not sure how????
Best Regards
Jaco and Swambo

Hey Guys.
We are up and going again, new motor went in with no mayor problems, started on the second crank no more oil leaks on the motor, no more mysterious water losses and a lot lighter on fuel.
Do have small transmision leak into bell housing not sure why? But will drive it for a bit first. Slipping when cold still with us but we have made peace with it for now!!!
Spring SPCA are having a fun run 26 June 2011 i know the area well and the day can be interesting. Will post more detail as soon as i know. We are trying to find info (Swambo)
Best Regards
