1992 Pajero Sport

Hi

Ek het die naweek een te koop gesien vir 'n goeie prys. Nou wil ek by julle manne hoor, is dit 'n goeie koop?

Thanks!

Gerrie

Yip, 1992 Pajero Sport - Don't know if it's an import (it was standing on the lot at the Valley Auto Fair n Durbanville).
What mechanical experience do I need? Mine's rather limited, but I know how to do the basics...
So, is it a good idea or not??
Thanks, I would love to get a little more involved... if I end up driving a Pajero - all the better!!

Gerrie,

I think the guys here are hesitant to get involved, because I personally have never heard of a 1992 Pajero Sport.

That looks like a gem. I'd negotiate the price a bit.

The spares are hard to find in SA but the car is built like a tank. My dad has a Gen1 and it's a lovely vehicle that is very capable even with limited articulation and open diffs all round.

OK, so what you are saying is that parts will be a problem? How big a problem? Will I have to wait two months out of every three for something to get imported, or only if something big breaks will I have a problem???

Gerrie,

So you've gathered that the car is a Gen 1 Pajero (not Sport).

I agree, it is a gem. And there are not that many around with low mileage (assuming it is true mileage...). The seller had the car on Gumtree for some time now, but I see it is gone now?

Have it checked out mechanically. I suggest you try Theunis at Stellenberg Motors (021) 919 0859.

You may find it difficult to get body parts, but I believe the engine was commonly found in Mazda's - check this out with Theunis.

These are truely strong vehicles, and as long as you "gooi" fuel, she'll give you good service!

Cool, thanks!
So what am I looking at in terms of consumption? This will be my daily vehicle as well...

Jip, that's a Gen1 LWB "tank".

I've had mine for 16 yrs and have modified it extensively.

Engine spares will be no problem.
That 3.0 V6 is still used in many Mitsu models.
