Hello all,

wondering if any one has tried to upgrade the display console , the one that displays your fuel consumption ect
i have the ultra boring display with the black numbers on it , i am wanting to upgrade to the blue one with the compass

is this a plug and play or is it more difficult :? than i am assuming?

When I had my 2000 DiD I enquired at the dealer if it was possible and they said "Nope, different harnass". I never bothered to follow-up. Was easier to sell the 2000 and buy a 2003.

There is a guy that fitted a lovely DVD, GPS and everything else that goes with it in place of the radio and aircon knobs.

Hi
I heard of a guy in PTA that sells a colour screen for less than the dull one at the dealers.
I will try and get his contact details

I don't know. For that price you can also consider my option. I put a new Garmin Nuvi 1410 GPS unit there. For now it is fitted with velcro tape, which actually works extremely well, but I intend to do the fitment more profesionally soon. This will also entail drilling a small hole at the back of the small cubbyhole to let the wire go in through the back. The Nuvi 1410 is a GPS which shows speed and altitude and can also function as a trip fuel calculator, Bluetooth phone connection and off course also shows the time!

So for about R2000 I got all that and a nice screen that almost fits perfectly. downside is that I lost display of aircon settings(not a biggy as you can just look at the dials, radio channels(long time ago dropped the Mitsu radio), outside temp(Must say I miss this the most) and date(not too serious).

The unit is still easy to remove and use when walking or in another vehicle. No modifications done as unit is so slim it actually fits real nice with the velcro strips. I think it looks much better than my old black on grey display which always had one digit missing on the time readout.

Here is a cellphone pic to give you an idea.

Thanks Sharks for the info!

The nuvi is a nice idea , especially being a touch screen ;) , but i like to keep things as original as possible , i chatted to the work shop in p/eliand , they say it is a simple plug and play , but may find an issue with calibration on the compass.he does know that we will need to do something with the bracket to make :? it fit though

so i am calling another few mitsu mechanics till i find the truth before hacking it out

will keep u up to date

I hate it when this happens.

I asked a Mits mechanic and he says totally impossible, different harnass. Nightfighter asks his guy at Mits and he says no prob, plug and play.

The lesson is don't trust any mach until you have asked for a few extra opinions.

ok here is the update:

I managed to get the newer display unit to check the ports
(this is a unit thrown out by mitsubishi as a faualty unit - they say that a client complained that it had a constant buzzing sound  )

Any way , i hacked away taking the middle console out and found my way to the RV unit display, unscrewd it out and .........
same plugs and port as on the new and old very nervously i un plugged the old unit and plugged in the newer unit ..it fit like a soft leather shoe!! ;)

only problem i have en-counted is the metal bracket that that holds the units in place needs to be smaller and the original will not work.

so i am driving with a wobbley console today , unitll i work out my plan

will up date with pics a little later , but at least we have clarity at last , the blue compass unit is plug and play off the old unit 8-)
and best of all no buzzing sounds as yet! ;) ;) ;)
