Hi Guys

I am looking at fitting a Deep cycle battery system to my Venter Botswana trailer, but I have a question that's been bugging me for a while regarding Deep cycle batteries. When you have Deep cycle batteries in your trailer/camper how does one go about extending "battery life" when you are not camping or driving around with a Deep cycle battery fitted in your car. Do you keep it on a charger 24/7 or do you only charge it once till it is fully charged and then disconnect the charger?

If anyone has done this previously on a trailer, I would like some suggestions and maybe a full description of the what, where and how!

Look on the internet at the new "smart-chargers" available......that's what i permanently attach to my 2x auxiliary / spare batteries.

Today, these chargers can even "revive dead batteries", which previously would have been traded for new ones.
I rely on the new smart charger to independently, switch on and off, by itself, as needed, and have not had any adverse effects on the batteries.
I even switch it onto my National Luna auxiliary power pack, when camping in a place that has 220v available for campers. It switches on, when needed only, without charging at a massive / battery-destructive rate.

Ps. another back-up option is to also rig-up a solar photo voltaic system, with voltage regulator, which supplements perfectly, when there's no 220 volt availability.
