Maintenance plan extension

Gents,

Your thoughts please.

My 2006 3.8V6 SWB will be running out of maintenance plan in Nov. The car is going in this evening to have the k75km service done tomorrow. I average k30km per year and still have a long trip planned for this winter. I am fully expecting to need the k90km service done before Nov, so no problem there.

Here is my dilemma (you guessed it): Do I buy an extension on the maintenance plan?

Motorite (one of the best ones around) wants R44k for a k40km plan. That will cover two services and every moving and wearing part conceivable.

My car has been ABSOLUTELY reliable thus far. My only requests at previous services were to check the head light adjustment and to rotate front and rear wheels.

What are your experiences in this regard, with different products as well as an “ageing” 3.8V6 motor. Mine has a “BULLET PROOF” sticker on the tappet cover  .

:D welcome to the no service plan club :D

I changed from a 2008 Lexus IS250 to a 2001 SWB Paj , i took the chance ... why waste the money?

My thinking is .. if its serviced regularly and i drive it like i am supposed to (ok most of the time) and i a have insurance on the vehicle then how much help is a sevice plan?

South Africans are stuck on the 100 000 km mark for some reason , yet when you look at the other older ladies ( no offence to the older ladies in the club) they are still ticking away nicely.

Personal pref is what it comes down to at the end of the day , ;)

Went through the same exercise recently, just couldnt justify that sort of money.

I almost bought a 2 year unlimited km warranty, approx 9k, also motorite. My discussions at 2 dealerships with the workshop guys was why bother these cars are notoriously reliable.

Fingers crossed, so far so good...

Thanks guys,

You basically echo my own feelings on this issue. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if a few dissidents are lurking out there.
