Hello to all members
I am a newbie to this site as well as to Pajero brand.
As I love to tinker used to drive land Rovers

do not shoot I still love them.
However just purchased this 1989 Pajero SWB and she stole our hearts immediatly.
She is a 2.5 TD if that helps
Not driving her yet as I need a gearbox for her.
My question do I understand correctly that if needed I can fit a gearbox from a pre 1996 box shape colt?
I would appreciate feedback.
If anyone out there has a suitable gearbox available, please let me know.
all the best to all regards
Johan

Johan,
Welcome!
That is exactly how I got hooked on the Pajero/Mitsubishi brand!
It is an awesome vehicle, which was way ahead of his rivals at the time.
Yes, the old 'box' Colts share many components with the Gen1 Pajero.
Was it an automatic? If so, consider going manual. Those Aisin (Toyota) auto boxes fitted to the Gen1 Pajeros overheated very easily.
The pedalset and clutch master cylinder from a Colt or a Gen2 Pajero bolt straight onto the Gen1.
The only 'problem' could be the hole in the floor for the gear levers.

Hi Gerhard
Thanks for your reply.
She is manual gearbox, and i may be able to get a colt manual gearbox, therefore my need for info.
On the engine side, does the colt engines 2.5d or 2.8 d fit, without any need for conversions, not to keen on conversions as I prefer as standard as possible.
regards
Johan

The 2.5Td and 2.8TD have nothing in common.
The 2.5TD was used in the Colt in the early days, but if you need a replacement engine, the 2.5 from the Hyundai bakkie is a Mitsubishi engine, and should be a good and cheap replacement.

Hi Gerhard
Thank you for feedback on engines.
Sorry to get back.
So do you know if pre 1996 Colt box shape gearbox is exactly the same?
Will appreciate feedback on this as I now have her at home and would love to have her rolling on her own steam:-).
I am trying to find original gearbox, but contingency plan is always good.
Once again thank you.
regards

'exactly' is a dangerous word, but I would think the Colt 4x4 gearbox would be as close to 'exactly' as possible.
