Hi guys
My name is Francois and currently working in Zambia, seeing as I might be here for some time I have the option to buy myself an 4X4 and the vehicle I am looking at is a Pajero !!!
Now I think my question is which one to buy( importing ) ??
I have read up about the different models and so on, and I am aiming towards an gen 3 swb 3.2 did early model, am I doing this wrong or is this a good option?
My driving needs is going to be daily commute on <censored> roads to work and back and then weekends going bonkers in the bush ?

Being a Gen 3 driver myself I might be biased, buit I think you cant go wrong with a 3.2 Did. Swb? Well if I was younger with no kids this would probably be on my list, but I prefer the LWB.
So when do you get one boet? Get your backside in action and go testdrive some. In your neck of the woods it should be laughingly less expensive than over here in the RSA!

Those are great cars, and I would also prefer an earlier model (with more mechanical parts such as difflocks, rather than hi-tech traction control).
If you do not have a family, the 2-door is perfect - slightly lighter than the 4-door, and a better ramp-over angle (shorter distance between axles).
Most important thing: IS THERE A SERVICE FACILITY AVAILABLE? Any 4x4 is prone to breaking, (even Pajero's), especially when "going bonkers" in the bush - and you do not want a palooka to work on your car.

The company I work for has there own workshop and they are pretty good.
And definitely I'll be looking for mech diff locks.
And how expensive the mods on gen 3 ? bigger wheels, high lift kits .............

If you find one you like take it for a test drive check that everything works. check the 4x4 selector box that all switches works. and make sure you get a Full service history.
even if possible get the previous owners number and have a chat with him. find out why he sold it. sum previous owners might be reluctant to chat but i had a 45min phone call with my pajero's previous owner and found out all the nitty gritty stuff from him what he did where he when to, did he tow and all the extra's and also what previous repairs he had and what problems he had.

These cars are all imported from japan and reason for selling is that old cars get more and more difficult to keep on the road. Unfortunately that would be a excellent price but on top of that an 82% duty and tax is added

Firstly welcome to the club.
As Johan mentioned, maybe look at an older model. i.e. Gen 2.5 or so, if your only looking for a vehicle for use there, and for bundu bashing, then that should also work for you.
Pricing should be a lot better, and still comes with all the goodies, i.e. rear diff lock, cruise cntrl and all the other comforts,
further more IIRC because of the blister fender, when up-sizing your wheels (after raising your suspension) you don't really have to cut or really modify the wheel arches to accommodate.
Just a thought.
