Any pointers will be highly appreciated for what to look for on a 1995 Gen 2 2.8 Lwb
Anything in particular that I must look for?
I can get one for a good price.

FSH
Have the cooling system checked by a good radiator workshop (leaking head gasket, radiator etc).
The only known "problem" with the 4m40 engine is a tendency to crack heads.

The owner says the engine was overhauled about 15 000 km back, I'm test driving it tommorow, and will post and update then.

That sounds like alarm bells, phone Japan auto and get a price on a replacement engine and add to the purchase price, if it is still a good deal go for it

I am hearing the alarm bells as well...
At least ask for proof (slips), bearing in mind it could be false. I suggest you have the engine checked out by a pro. Otherwise the car is only wirth the buy if you factor in the price of an engine, as Henk suggested.

Thanks for your inputs, well I took it for a drive and there is no Pull feels like a non turbo 2.8
when in the rev range is the turbo suppose to kick in?
The leather seats have seen better days, the roof is showing spots of rust in the rain gutter and around windscreen, all the electric windows are a bit sticky, in need of a good polish, no oil leaks on gearbox and transfercase front diff and bottom engine covered in old caked oil.
1996 model 264500km on the clock
Copy of an invoice states new top, new pistons gasket set new injector tips recalibration of diesel pump. covered 19000km since last service
Low range seems fine H4 ok center diff engages the H2 light is dead.
needs new tyres
The owner wants R50k
I think I need to be on the look out again up to R90k
In comparison to other brands like Toyota is spares aforedabil or over the top expensive?????

Owner said motor overalled 15,000 Km ago but last serviced 19,000Km ago. Something does not ring true.

The owner got his details wrong they overalled the engine? first service then travelled 19 000km further to where the odo reading is standing now.
When is the turbo supposed to kick in in the rev range???
