Hey All
Hope you can help or point me in the right direction. The other day I pulled my 2005 SWD DID out of the garage and locked it with the remote. About 2 hours later needed to go out and when I tried to unlock with the remote I got nothing, thought it was the battery in the remote, unlocked with the key and started the car normally and drove away. It was then I noticed the following, no display on the onboard computer, radio not working, aerial not coming up, traction control warning lights on. Windows, headlight, sun roof, aircon all still working. Turned around and went home, I figured it was a fuse, found the faulty fuse, however when i was replaced it immediately blew again leaving me with the conclusion there has to be a short. Currently it is with a auto electrician, it has been there for 3 working days now. So I guess my questions are as follows: Has anyone else experienced this? Am i going about this the correct with letting them strip my dash and console to fault find? Is there a sparky in Cape Town that would be better suited to this task? Any and all replies, comments appreciated, Cheers
Fault found, rear interior light not earthed properly, this is going to be fun, MM were the last to work on the roof lining, when they repaired the sunroof, are they liable? They were also the ones who told me any decent auto electrician would suffice.
Craig,
I would try them, but don't spend the money before they pay - they'll probably get away with some indemnity and some lame excuse that it was a "pre-existing" fault that was aggrevated by the work on the roof. Also that it was fine when you took possession of the car, etc. etc.
Good luck anyway!

What I will do is to make them aware of the new consumer act and they are liable as they worked on those items and gently force them to pay up.
I will not accept any lame excuse anymore from dealers or service providers and I have the ugly notion of asking all these difficult questions before I deal with somebody and you will soon see who is up to the task because most of them take us for fools.
I have had this experience just in the week with the sideshafts that must be refitted with new bearings and after three attempts found a guy who is able to stand for his work and at a quarter of the price of the previous two.
Regards

MM have requested a full report and the obvious invoice. Will update as and when I have info
MM have denied all liability and the auto elec has now sung a different tune, they cant tell me what they did to fix the fault, or where the fault lay, all they said indicated was the rear interior light wasnt seated properly. R2.5k wasted on trusting someone whom I have been going to for 15 years, little disapointed to say the least. Lesson learnt, go to the agents!
Have a good weekend all!

Caveat emptor,
Buyer beware, this is always a good policy when dealing with any one of the service providers. The chances are that the vehicle would have been standing for longer at the stealers as they might not have been as clued up in electrical fault finding as a specialist autolec. If it was a permanent short it would be relatively easy to find but if it was an intermittent fault.... well that changes the ball game completely, it is probably the worst fault to find and is often referred to as a ghost, it is there but you can not see it. To fix a short is cheap to find it ......

Hi. I appear to have the same problem after replacing the rear door light with a led version. Central locking, radio and display dead on 2001 did pajero. Cannot find any blown fuses and no fuses effect all those items.
I removed the led, disconnected the battery for a day, but still same problem. Does anyone know how to reset ecu for faults, as might be disabling circuits in some sort of safety mode? Any advice would be appreciated. Regards Bennie

Hi, attached is a image of my faulty fuse, not too sure if this will help, good luck!

Thanks a million. Everything works fine again. Was blown rear light fuse, but not sure how this could effect the rest - was real pain driving without central locking and radio. Leaving light disconnected for now... I owe you a beer - give me a shout if you come to Windhoek.
