check the standard stuff
- brakes
- cv boots
- tie rod boots
- suspension bushes
- play in steering
Pajero Gen3 specific
- makes sure the gearbox works (check the tiptronic if it's an auto and go offroad to check the transfer case operation)
- check the autobox fluid condition -

- check for oil leaks at the turbo side of the engine -

- check the rear diff for oil leaks -

- check that ALL the electrics work
- check that the aircon works
- pull the boost pipe that attaches to the intake manifold and look for build up on that throttle butterfly
- check the shocks
None of these things are major trainsmashes - other than the oil pressure sensor but all these things can cost a pretty penny if you add them up.
Other than that ask a friend (that has a good nick gen3)if you could use his car for a day so you can get a feel for the suspension and performance. Maybe even take 3 or 4 for a test drive. That way if something feels wrong you will notice it more easily.
They are fantastic cars and are super reliable. Happy shopping!

The problem with these cars of course is that you cannot wait too long to decide whether to buy or not....it will simply disappear very quickly off the showroom floor!
