Found a rather enlightening movie clip showing how people could be thrown from a vehicle. Never seen it shown quite so dramatically

My employer overseas got a hit from a lorry while she was in an A-Class merc.

If the rear passenger also wore a seatbelt (like the front 2) everybody would have walked away but...... because of the rear passenger's movement in the car, my employer got crushed from behind by the rear passenger and broke some ribs. The rear passenger had severe spinal injuries (luckily not paralyzed).

I used to say to my passengers that they will foot the bill if we get pulled over for seatbelts but now there is no butts about it.

Buckle up or walk ! ! !

Fantastic gif. Thanks. I'm sharing that!

And wouldn't make it if it were real, as both are totally crushed by the vehicle.

even more crazy is the one in the black pants (if right hand drive it would be the driver) is flung out into the air and a total hang time of 3 seconds is achieved.

safe to say no one would survive that roll

I wish this would be shown on national TV as I do a fair ammount of driving daily and the ammount of woman in cars with kids in the front and rear not fastened is scary to say the least.
I even had a big fight with my dad the other day about a seatbelt to such a point that he does not want to drive with me anymore. I force everybody in my vehicle to put on their seatbelts at all times even for a very short trip.
Clearly an eye opener.
Regards

As a young man in Namibia(1984) we rolled a Hilux 4x4 (through no fault of the car). No seatbelt by the driver or myself, we both were flung from the car. I went out through the windscreen opening - luckely by then it was windowless - and can still recall how high and far I flew before landing amongst dolerite boulders. I walked away from that one, but my good buddy suffered permanent brain damage. If we were belted in, I'm sure things would have been different.

WEAR THOSE SEAT BELTS!!

Hi Guys

Yes this sure is one thing that worries me everyday, kids on backseats, front passenger seats without wearing seatbelts  Then the best one I normally see cause we live in a holiday town, KIDS ON MOM/DAD'S LAP WHILE DRIVING, and NO SEATBELTSSSS????????? None, nada, niks, must be that 2days overpriced cars come without seatbelt :?:

I've been in a small head-on in 1996, between Kroonstad and Jozi. Me (1995 Merc E 320 first mods with airbag - was dad's car) survived because of Greater help from above, car being a Merc and my girlfriend, now my wife, hammering on me to always wear my seatbelt. 4 people in the other car (Hyundia Accent), 3 kids badly hurt, mom unfortunately did'nt make it. Well needless to say, my work on earth was'nt finished yet so it took me 18mnths in wheelchair, nine ops on femur, two ops on left foot (got in behind the brake lever - ouch), burnt right arm up to the bone with radiator water and engine oil that came through my window.

Well today my kids know, no seatbelt, no ride SORRY THAT'S THE/MY LAW ;)

Just think about it, 2 cars colliding @ 120km/h, that's like riding into a wall @ 240km/h.

Speed as well as "dop" as well as no seatbelts kill

I share your thoughts 100% but on a technical note : the bold statement isn't true. two cars head-on, each travelling at 120km/h is like hitting a brick wall at 120km/h. (Unless the one car is considerably heavier then it will have the lesser impact due to momentum advantage and the smaller will have a harder impact) - hence why a 5 star suv is better than a 5 star hatchback.
