Hello Everybody :D
Hello all,

My name is Andra with a 2001 3.2 DID Auto Pajero. New owner and looking to explore about the car more as the car just had a full engine rebuilt with kinks here and there around the car.
This will be a learning process for me, so please guide me. Also, I hope you don't mind me as a non-SA citizen joining in (I'm from Indonesia btw  )

Either way, please to meet you all :)

Regards,
Andra

Andra,

Welcome on board.

We do have several non-SA members, and sure, everyone is welcome. We make sure the non-SA members know they are especially welcome! I do think you are our only Indonesian member, but who knows, I may be proven wrong soon. :)

The only common denominator is a liking for Pajero's. Some members do not even own one, but we all love them!

Welcome from me as well. How about a picture of your Pajero?

Why was the engine rebuilt and how much kilometers was on the engine when it was redone?3.2 Did seems to be renowned for their reliability and I am always interested to read about engine failures on these motors. Was the 2001 Pajero in Indonesia also fitted as standard with the 3.2 Did when it came out?

Thank you for the welcome, CATS and please to meet you too.

Pics will come soon.

Me and my father's initial analysis was a 'metal-to-metal knocking sound' during the test drive, which we thought might to relate to the valvetrain components. What we don't know is there is more than that. The price deal are pretty cheap (below average selling price) with the risk of rebuild half of the engine.

Then start the road trip from Java island to Sumatra island. Around 100km-ish off from the harbour in Sumatra the car went overheat to the top of the water temperature gauge and then it just cuts off, overheats. Later we take off the thermostats and it pretty much shot, take that off. Put everything back together, refill the water and it runs. We continues the trip with driving RPM range not more than 2200 rpm, just to keep the water temperature controlled by the driving with occasional stop in each 200-300 kms drive and spray the the radiator with water and refill if necessary.

Once arrived in Sumatra, we to put the car to the shop and check out the knocking sound. Turns out nothing. Take off the head from the block and crank it, that's where the knocking sound was. Turns out from the piston pin having an offset so it plays around during the movement. Then we decide to disassemble the engine to check the damage from the previous overheat, which we found out scratches on the cylinder lining and burnt piston with piston rings stuck to it...
Also overheating caused by A/C fan not turning on due to burnt cable...

Thankfully all good now after ordering parts from the UK, also rebuilt the radiator and rechecking all the cooling system, although still needs few more parts, and sorting the suspension as well lifting up the ground clearance (too many deep potholes here :( )

Thank you Fielies! I'm sure I have more questions coming up.

Now that you mention questions, do you by any chance have a references on spare parts for this car that are non-UK based parts supplier? None of them respond to my emails, even the one I bought my parts from...
