My 2000 blister fender 2.8 TDI is missing the air motor for the rear diff lock, does anyone know the part number and where would I find the ECU for this as I can find no info on the web.

Neil ,
I don't know about an air motor for diff lock. What I know is the diff lock is operated by vacuum from the engine bay via a vacuum pump if you can call it that. What then should happen it should send air to the accumulater at bottom of vehicle - looks like a black can from where the air is distributed. You should have a vacuum line connected to your rear diff .
When you press rear diff lock a solenoid switch should give you indication of diff lock in or out on your dash.
If I am wrong please correct me guys. I only speak of what I have seen on my Blister although petrol. Maybe the diesel is different.

Paw_by_paw, you have it wrong. Although the front axle disconnect device is vacuum actuated, the rear diff lock works on positive pressure (on the petrol and diesel versions of the Gen 2 as well as Gen 3). This pressure is supplied by a little electric air compressor unit, that is mounted under the second row seats in one of those little hatches (the one on the right hand side) in the Gen 2 LWB. When the rear diff lock switch is turned on, one can hear the little compressor buzzing away until the line pressure reaches the required value, at which time a pressure switch turns it off.

Gerrit,
Thanks for that.
I will go and have a look at where it is. I have opened those hatches but have not seen any little compressor there.
Maybe time to inspect my vehicle a bit closer

Thanks Guys for the help.

I went to Mitsu and now I have two part numbers for the Air pump and no idea what the difference is, MB 664381 and MR 453610, they are getting the MR 453610 for me to check, but I have no idea if that is the right one....

Anyone out there with a 2000 Blister fender 2.8 TDi LWB that would like to take a pic ( and maybe see if the part number is there) of their air motor in the small compartment underneath the drivers side backseat.

Anyone?...... ;)

I checked WinCaps, and found the following:
Diff Control.jpg
I assume you have type V46W pajero, but if you send me your VIN no, I can confirm.

MB664381 - AIR PUMP, RR DIFF LOC

The control unit can be one of many, see the attached PDF file.

I tried to enter the VIN # into CAPS, but it won't accept it. (Could be the SAMCOR #s which are not recognized).

Hi people,

The compresor for the rear diff lock on my Gen 3 (2004) model is above the rear diff. This I found out when I installed a lock diff in my car. All the holes necessary to fit the comressor were there and it was as simple as holding the pump in position and install the bolts.
