ATF & Power Steering Fluid

I bought some power steering fluid for my Gen3 3.2DID this morning. I pulled away from the garage and glanced at the bottle and saw it was ATF. So I turned back and asked them WTH this is. They informed me that ATF can be used for the power steering fluid also.
Your thoughts on this?

ATF and power steering fluid is almost identical. Power steering fluid is usually just thinner in viscosity.
You should be fine - just read the container - it may specify that it's OK in power steering systems.

ATF is just a "fancy name" for a very high quality hydaulic oil. They are definately the correct ones to use for the power steering. My Gen 3 Owners Handbook spec either Dexron II or Dexron III for the power steering. It must at least read "xxxxx" III ATF.
