Hi, I own a 1997 SWB TDI

I have had it for ten years and NEVER replaced the shocks! By now the ride is really bumpy and the car floats on corrugated gravel roads

1 I dont have the cash for serious OEM
2 95% of my driving is on tar, rest on gravel. Dont realy offraod. Bought car to launch heavy boat of beaches around SA when I was still diving for wrecks, now beaches are closed
3 May sell car in next 2 years
4 What can I fit and where to go in Somerset West (Cape Town)
5 When I load 3 grown ups the front of the car lifts, do I need to replace anything else

Really need your help, want the best for cash flow

Cheers
Jaco

In your situation I'd source Monroe Gas Magnums, available at any Hi-Q or SupaQuick.

Hi Simon, thanks for info, will it fix the sagging rear when loaded?

Read about TB and coils and stuff, or can I get away with just new shocks

They're not likely to help with the rear end, for that you'll probably need new coils but you can probably pick up coils from guys who upgrade to aftermarket stuff. I believe hbannink might have a set lying around ;)

Hi Jaco & Simon

I own a 1994, Gen 2 LWB Pajero and is due for Shocks. I know that OME (my deduction from forum discussions) is the best, but not sure whether it will give me a smooth ride. I've had a back operation 2 years ago and want the ride to be accommodating my back. I do +- 70% offroad (gravel), but not serious stuff. Only trails of no more than 3 ratings - more a family outing and enjoying the nature, braai etc.

Do you think the OME will be to bumpy on my back, and if so, what do you recommend ?

Thank you, Robert.

HI Robert

I had my suspension (coils and shocks) replaced by OME at Johan Tyre in Stikland. The ride of my Gen3 LWB is much better. I've my first real off-road the past weekend and was very impressed with he stability etc. I would definitely recommend it.
I just have another problem, on our way to the 4x4 route, one of the participants rammed into my back and pushed the towbar into the back bumper. Now need to get all that sorted in the next few weeks.

Enjoy!
