Appologies for the confusion subject, yet so many threads is about either Flashing Lights, Auto or Non Auto Front Hubs, and all topics helped. I have a few questions. I recently experienced the dreaded flashing lights problem with the super select system. The main problem was the chain inside the t-case that was streched, New Chain plus spares: R8500.00. Luckily i found a second hand t-case for R4000.00. But still had some work on it. It turns out that once the solenoids were checked and fixed it the problem?? Or did it.
Whilst driving today i suddenly noticed the cente diff amber light started flasing, this was sorted simply by stopping, switching car on and off.
I want to know how can one test the selonoids without removing the t-case.

I am also experiencing a strange phenomenon when going around bends, the steering just gets extremely hard, this is not always the case. Can it be that the hubs are locked (Although it shows that it is in 2H). The reason why i suggest it is because it happens whilst I'm exelerating. I read in one of the treads that there is a engage / dis-engage freewwheel solenoid on the transfer case, can it be the problem and how to test it is working.

the centre diff starts flashing if a problem is picked up on the system.

More than likely you have a vacuum issue or the 4h switch on the transfer case is going out - a common occurence on the gen3.

Start by looking at the actuator by the front diff. It has 2 vacuum pipes going into it. Get a helper and check for vacuum on the one in 2h and then the other in 4h,4hlc or 4llc. Also check that the actuator moves.





Secondly look on the driver's side fender inside the engine bay. You will see 2 vacuum solenoids with some vacuum pipes attached. Those solenoids fail or develop dry joints or get perished pipes.

take the electrical connectors off carefully and spray with elektrokleen or similar product and put back. Also look for perished pipes there - be very careful as the solenoid pipes get brittle with time.



This problem usually arises in 2h after about 30km or so. If you don't want to the error to bother you until you get it fixed, leave it in 4h and most of the time the centre diff light flash doesn't appear in 4h.

Thank you Marius. I dont often get time to look at the forum, but your help and input has cetainly assisted in many ways. ie. I read your reply on a speed sonsor issue wrt over revving of a Gen3. My brother in law had the exact same issue, but being in Botswana they only wanted to change the whole diesel injector pump. I bought the sensors here in SA and got it to him, viola, it worked......
As with the flashing lights, i am getting there.....slowly
