Van Zyls Springs, shocks, airbags and spacers?
Update as at 15th April 2012
Van Zyls Springs - 1 Member did try this route and was not happy with the result - proceed this route with caution!

Spacers - so far the spacers on std coils are looking good if you already have after market coils (OME, Iron Man, etc), the additional height may cause some vibrations - CATS is busy reviewing this option. Nismo was first to go the spacer route and so far is happy, Zeek and Gemaskerde Tuinvurk are on order, and will consider myself once done some more milage with the rear airbags

Air Bags - I have installed air bags in the rear and have noticed a 30mm height increase, so consider this as an option for a lift in the rear as well, and possibly spacers in Front

Shocks - Jury not out on this one yet - horses for corses I guess. Bilsteins, still appear to be one of the best, OME, and Koni also pretty good and some good feedback from the guys testing the Gabriel HDP "green monsters"
Hi,

I am looking for a bit more lift on my Pajero, I have 1 leaking shock and time has come for me to make a change and get a bit more lift, I am hoping for between 40mm and 50mm lift.

The OME are very expensive
The IronMan I have heard and read have got issues with the bushes, failure, bumpy and noisy - I don't want any of these issues
The KYB, not bad, no idea what they are like new though, not the cheapest from the stealers
TJM are also very expensive

van Zyls springs (as per brief discussion with CATS), and pricing wise seem very reasonable (R1200 per pair front and R1200 per pair rear excl VAT) seems very reasonable to me and they will fit the new shocks at the same time.

Has anybody gone this route and if so what is the feedback and what shocks did you use.

Are the new Gabriel shocks out yet for Paj Gen3, and has anybody put these on?
Who is running Gabriel Safaris (also seen a few bad comments on these shocks), and what is their opinion on these shocks and a possible combination as per discussion with the guys from van Zyls?

Any comments welcome here, I am definately not an expert in this area , and also don't want to spend R12k on springs and shocks, that is not an option for me unfortunately.

Thanks

David
Re: Van Zyls Springs-Who has these fitted and with what shoc
I also need new springs as mine has sagged quite a bit, especially the rear ones. I want to replace it with something that is as close as possible to the originals in terms of performance, so my big concern with the van Zyl's ones are that they aren't as good as the originals. The originals, OME and other expensive one are progressive. Does anyone know if the van Zyl's ones are too?

Re: Van Zyls Springs-Who has these fitted and with what shoc
Davidvan,
I have KYB shocks on my blister and bought from a local tyre shop at half the price as from the stealers.
Safari shocks not my favourate as mine did not even last 1000 km on off road caravan and I have subsequently replaced them with camel shocks (coil over shock)and a huge difference in handling.

Thanks guys, will confirm that the van zyls coils are progressive, and get some updated costs on the KYB not from the stealers. Need to get new shocks before end of year.

Do you tow? Or do you load quite heavily (e.g. for overlanding)?

Karl,

I do quite a bit of overlanding, usually pretty loaded and have recently got a trailer, so will be heavy in the rear. I am considering the air helpers in the rear as well once I have got the parts together which will be new springs, shocks and air helpers in the rear.

I will watch with interest... I got a quote for EFS shocks and coils of about R10k... but feedback from others have been that the EFS coils are a bit hard...

Although, I do think that most of these lifts that provide extra weight capacity will probably harden the ride, unless you've loaded the vehicle somewhat. Or is this what the progressive springs are supposed to sort out?

Also, do you combine shocks with coils attached, together with springs?

Re: Van Zyls Springs-Who has these fitted and with what shoc
Here is the current solution I am reviewing further and the costs:

van Zyls Springs - Front R1200 per pair and Rear R1200 per pair
Shocks from Midas - Monroe Gas Magnum at R590 each
Total estimate at this stage is R4760 for the spings and 4 shocks (excluding fitment)

I need to confirm a few things still though, progressive springs, Moroe warranty appears to be 3 years, etc

Just been a bit busy at the office will do a spreadhseet to detail the costs I have received so far.

Gerrit had a huge post going on 4x4community with alot of detail in conjunction with Bennie, so still reading that, was over 100 posts on that one and alot of detail around spacers, OME, KYB, body lift, etc.
