New Torsion bars collapse Pajero 1999 3.5 LWB

I enjoy reading all the interesting posts thanks to all members.

Please can anyone perhaps help with my problem? Recently I have had my Pajero suspension upgraded with TJM suspension, torsion bars as well. After fitment I decided to try it out in an old quarry near by. On my return back home I disappoint discovered that the front of my PJ has drop down. After measuring the riding height it seems to drop about 20mm as compared to the original dimensions specify by the fitment centre. I took it back to the fitment centre for investigating the matter. Apparently they could not explain what has happened. After some adjustments made to the torsion bars to lift “her” nose again the guys at the fitment centre ask me to drive it for a couple of weeks end than come back to check it again if it still drops down they will considered another set of torsion bars. It is now 2 weeks later and the problem is back again.
I want to take her back, but think it would be good to get the fore meaning first. What went wrong?

Regards; Krappie

Chris,
I am not a suspension specialist but just my 2c's worth here.
Maybe the torsion bars were installed incorrectly as installation procedure is specific.
I am not sure if a torsion bar can realyy "pap" in such a short time but maybe there is a tension fault in the manufacturing process and they do not keep tension.
I would not take an excuse like that and would demand replacement immediately. I for example would not excuse or explanation of settling of such meaning they should be right from the start without having to settle.
My car also a 99 Blister is still running on the origanals and no problems thus far.
Hope it helped

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer, but could it just be an inferior part?

Not brand-bashing, but I have never had a day's trouble with my OME (torsion bars, springs & suspension). I don't see a valid excuse for torsion bars going 'pap'.

Either bad workmanship or bad product.

My 2c.
Nico.

Hi Krappie

To install these one just need a few expensive tools like a two post lift and some sockets, the rest is easy. There are orientation marks on the bars and all one has to do is align them and bopa vas

Suspension drooping in the time span of one days playing is not good news, the only positive of this exercise is now you know that one trip to the playground puts as much stress on a vehicle as two weeks normal driving :o

I had some discussions with 4ways megga a few weeks ago and while the manager and I were talking the teccies took my baby to the back and pulled the original installation records of 4 years back up on computer and after testing the shocks and refitting them measured the heights as it stood. They came back with a result of 7mm higher than originally and they wanted to know what I have removed from the vehicle  In the end we figured that the bridgestones have a slightly higher profile than the bfs I had on when fitting the OME.

I would have a serious word with the fitment guys and insist on a new set at the least as I am sure there must be some fault in manufacturing or tempering. There are limits to how much one can set these up by before they would break and I am sure this set is close if not over the limit

Hi Nico. without brand- bushing, OME were my first choice. After placing my order at our local authorized OME fitment centre I disappointedly discover that I have to wait 2 weeks for the torsion bars. On enquiry after 2 weeks they informed me that it is on the ship and may takes another 2 weeks. 5 weeks later they apparently still await the arrival of the torsion bars. The moral of this: I have to settle for the second best. Bad workmanship or bad product? My opinion, a combination of both

Hi,thanks for your comments. I will take it up with the fitment guys. But before I go and make a fool of my self I need to find as mush info as possible. Only a stupid question, my PJ is fitted with an ARB bumper and winches, thus extra weight, could that contribute to my problem? Or does one get different torsion bars to compensate for the additional weight at front?

Chris I know OME does compensate for weight of extras and one gets different hardness springs. I had to load a bag of cement to compensate for the lack of weight before I fitted my drawers, not that I did it  As for the other brands I am not sure but I would think that they would cater for the extras.
