New / Recon Transmission

How heavy is the caravan?
How do you drive? Relaxed or foot on the floor when power needed?
Do you use the tiptronic mode or do you leave it in auto?
Those boxes are very strong and they can overheat when towing heavy - that's just the inherent flaw with autos - the box can be strong enough for a tank but if the oil doesn't get cooled enough it will still overheat. Maybe your only need is to have a larger (or extra) cooler fitted for the ATF.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to drop the transmission oil pan first and replace the filter before embarking on a path that would lead to substantial transmission work?
My thinking is that a blocked filter might reduce flow through the transmission circuits, including the cooler.

- The mech ordered what parts? Which parts caused the over-heating?
- What Gerrit said
- Send bold4E a PM. He fitted additional coolers to his transmission. Ask him to respond here.

It is a small caravan and I was gentle on the exelarator.
When I tow in tip tronic the problem does'nt come up but I must say I hadnt tow more than 200 km in tip tronic and like I said in auto the trans overheat after a 100 km.
I bought the vehicle second hand and the previous owner had the trans overhalled but I dont trust the oke he had used.
The mehanic found on the fault code that the problem must be in the reverse/input cluster and that is the part he had order.
To fit a bigger cooler is an option but I think it may only hide the problem because that sam caravan had been pulled before with a 20 Tucson and a 1600 Bantam with ease so I dont think the weight got something to do with it.
But like I said I dont have time because I have a planned trip to Moz over Dec and want to make sure everthing is right before I leave.

go for a good test drive towing the caravan before your trip. I have made the mistake more than once of doing a big job before a trip. It's not recommended.

Thats why I want to solve the problem as soon as posible so that I can first do a test drive.
But the dealer cant even tell me when the parts wil be here, all they say it is on back order and now with Imperial they cant tell where or when the parts will be in stock. So if things start like that I dont think the Imperial thing were a good thing.
I will rather buy a complete box and repair my box there after and sell it again but to give up my holiday for parts that are not availible and then there is still the maybe is not worth taking.
Maybe I must just sell the car and get something else, I dont know.
