Gen 4 Roofrack - remove roof lining?

Last weekend, the guy from Broadacres Fitment Centre told me that in order to install proper roofrack on the Gen4, the roof lining must be removed...

Surely not? Since that means a ton of labour!

Hi,

To fit a strong roof rack, with rails on the roof, you have to remove the roof lining.

This is true for Frontrunner, African Outback and Hannibal.

The only difference, is that you use the std holes with African Outback and Hannibal. Frontrunner drill new holes through the roof.

I went for a Hannibal (made in the Cape) and am very happy with it. They did the installation at the factory as well, and they did a great job - not one scratch or mark anywhere on the car. They didn't charge much for labour.

Cheers
Greg

Hi Karl

If you are going to fit the aftermarket roof rails, yes unfortunately you have to drop the roof lining as the rails are bolted through the roof, in the gutters.

This said, Herman from LA Sport in Centurion only charge R600 for the labour to fit it. It is however very easy to do yourself, with a little care though. I have just done mine last week Saturday and it took me only 30 minutes, I was very surprised at how easy it was, and I took great care in sealing everything to my satisfaction.

M2C, enquire from the fitment centre as to the costs, fixed price, or do it yourself if you have the equipment.

Cheers

Johann

Thanks for the help. Given my 2 left hands, I'm a bit skeptical of trying it myself...

However, before going the extreme route - what is the load rating on one of those clip-on roof racks? I'm only really keen on putting a spare wheel, 2 jerry cans and some firewood on it... would that fit on one of those 1.2m rails?

(also btw, I thought LA Sport was expensive, but seems not! Broadacres fitment center quoted me R1200 labour just to take out and replace the roof lining)
