Hi I am a new owner to an old pejero.
I need some advice.
I am driving a 1996 3000 ECI V6 model. not sure the technical model number
I have googled this and alot of technical information have been provided. but dont really understand.
I just need a quick information on this.
The all famous 4x4 light comes on and blinking after driving for about 100+KM I am in 2wd mode.
and after 150km the CD lock orange light also comes on and blinking.
Does anyone know if there is something serious that maybe having issues? that needs to be looked at.
Also what is the procedure to engage 4x4 gear. from 2h to->4h etc.
Look forward to your helpful replies.
thanks
ken
tlkchew,
The lights sporadically coming on and diff lock light coming on.
I am no specialist but can be attributed to:
Switches on the gearbox,
Loose connections,
ECU faulty,
Try the ECU reset way first.(For auto)
Disconnect the battery, switch on all switches, headlights, fog or spotlights, fan switch at full speed basically everything that turns and switches on and leave for 12 hours.
Connect battery again and drive your vehicle through the normal way you drive. Select two wheel to four wheel drive up to 80 km/h .
The rear diff lock operates through a vacuum pump in your vehicle situated underneath the rear seats and you can sometimes hear it pumping softly.
Check your vacuum lines to rear diff as well as those to the front and the accumulator at rear of engine, and check fitting to diff where vacuum line enters. Maybe your line is losing pressure somewhere and causing the fault or the reverse can be possible if there is a loose connection on the pump causing it kick in sporadically.
I know in my 3.5 some of the switches played up , have had some replaced not all yet but will come to that.
Electrically it can be the solenoids messing around situated in the engine bay.
That is all I can help with

More than likely it's the vacuum solenoids between the front right light and the air filter box. Usually replacement is necessary but I fixed mine by cleaning the electrical contacts and taking a vacuum tube from the vacuum pump and directly applying to all the vacuum solenoid nipples 4 or 5 times (alternating) to loosen up the mechanism inside.
The grinding was probably the front diff trying to engage as a failed vacuum solenoid will make the system default mechanically to 4h and bring up the flashing amber light.
