Recall of my Paj by MBSA
I have today received, at my postal address, the attached recall letter from MBSA.

I bought my 2002 SWB 3.2DiD used in May this year with 178k on the clock and it goes very well.
I suppose it's easy to trace a car and its owner, but what is strange is that it is only recalled now - for what I do not know.

Have any of you guys got similar letters or know anything about a recall? I am going to call MBSA but I would first of all like to get your opinion on this.

Thanks

This is probably for the brake booster accumulator which had a recall a while back on the older vehicles. Have it replaced and try keep the old one as a spare if it is that as they are about R2500 to replace otherwise.

Keep us updated please.

I also had the recall done and it made no difference. All it got me was some clicking noises in the front suspension/brakes after the new brake accumulator was fitted. MM will never touch my vehicle again!

I received the same letter from MBSA, phoned them, they told me to phone my Mitsubishi dealer and make an appointment with them to replace the brake accumulator.

I phoned the local dealership and they advised me that the brake accumulator will be replaced at no cost for the customer.

If they issue a recall for something else, like faulty steering, or you going to stick with that?

A recall is a most serious thing for a motor manufacturer to undertake, so I'm not sure that would be wise?

Did you take your car for the replacement of the accumulator, and if so, to which dealer did you take it? Is it a big job and did you have to leave the car for the day?

I saw this on the internet how to replace the part DIY: http://www.justanswer.com/mitsubishi/5d ... lator.html

The accumulator is very easy to replace. It is the round chamber attached to the brake master with a nut fixed on the top. To change it, do the following:

With the key OFF, depress the brake pedal 30-40 times. This will help dissipate any charge that may be present and help prevent brake fluid loss on removal.
Unscrew the accumulator from the brake master using a 21mm socket and ratchet. DO NOT USE AIR TOOLS.
Screw the new accumulator in using the 21mm socket and ratchet and toque to 40 ft lbs.
Turn ignition key to On and listen to pump run. When the pump turns off, turn off the ignition key.
Pump the brake pedal 40 times
Turn the key back on and let the pump run again, then repeat once the pump turns off. This process should be performed 4 times.

Verify there is no brake fluid leak from the accumulator, and top off the master cylinder if necessary.

Hi Gert

I had mine done earlier and have had no problems. had to leave vehicle there for about 2 hours and it was washed as well when I got it back. Mine was actually the second replacement( apparently ) due to colour coded dot on the accumulator.

very happy now that the chirpy bird is gone from the braking system :D

Hi Gert,

Re: Recall of my Paj by MBSA
I just came back from Mits Brooklyn to had the brake accumalator replaced.

What a pleasant experience! From making the appointment in person on Tuesday when I went there to get an oil filter, to the handing over of my (washed) vehicle this morning after they said that I could wait for the car, I could not find any reason to be disappointed in the service I got. The whole catoot was done in just over one and a half hour and I was treated to a newspaper and enough coffee to last me the whole day :D The reception and booking in of the car was professional and a breeze.

Thanks, Brooklyn for a really pleasant and friendly service.
