Cost of brake service?

I have just taken my Gen 3 in for an AC regas and the dealer mentioned that my disk pads were a bit thin. The rear ones were bad and the front ones had another 3,000-5,000kms to go.
They quoted me just over R4000 to skim the disks and replace the pads. Is this realistic? The car has 130,000kms and I do not know when last the pads were replaced.

Hi Kennekam,
Cannot comment on the SA Rand cost you quoted but if you are reasonable with a set of spanners the task of replacing the discs and pads is realtivley straight forwards.
I have just replaced all the discs and all pads, UK GBP £163.00 all in, took me abot 45 minutes per wheel.
I thought about getting the discs skimmed but in the UK the weather is that bad it simply corrodes the disc so its not really worth the outlay, better to buy new.
Hope you get sorted.

- don't skim disks, replace
- DIY
- get front disks and pads from PowerBrake, Pretoria (soon to become Tswane
)

agree with above comment. Do not skim...they will warp after a few thousand k's..
Powerbrake disks and pads for the front are fantastic. have been using them for last 3 years.
Pity they don't make for the rear. You will however have to replace rears with genuine Mits ones. They used to be cheaper that aftermarket ones.
Also very easy to replace.

The breakdown of costs:
Skimming front @ rear R2240!
Front disk pads R700
Rear disk pads R606
The above includes fitting though.......
The regas I took the car in for was done and seemed fine for the first few days, but the aircon could not cope with 23c today. They say they tested for leaks, but there obviously is still a problem. And we are leaving for the Kgalagadi on Wednesday.....

I have a quote for Powerbrakes which I am considering strongly. I understand they arevreleasing rear disks in September.

Anyone know if ATE makes discs and pads for the Gen 3 Pajero?
I got quoted around R8k for new discs and pads all round from the dealer.

Do you have a contact person you've been dealing with there? My next service will be a brake one...
