Which Pajero? - Red 2008 Gen4 3.8 LWB !
In spite of rambling around on both the Toyota and Land Rover forums, can I not convince myself that they offer anything close to a Pajero to meet my taste, needs and budget.

Below is a collection of Pajeros found on the Autotrader website. These are all LWB and GLS (the Sport is just a Sport). Which one would you choose? What I'm really asking is why should I NOT go for the 3.8V6. 4ePajero is not allowed to enter, he is way too DiD prone ;) .

2008 3.8V6 Red 62000km R 290,000
2009 3.2DiD White 98000km R 345,000
2010 Sport Gold 22000km R 340,000
2011 Sport White 5400km R 389,000
2009 3.2DiD Silver 71500km R 399,900
2009 3.2DiD Silver 63500km R 399,900
2009 3.2DiD Silver 45000km R 410,000
2010 3.2DiD Silver 25000km R 460,000

Re: Which Pajero?
They are all pajeros so you can't go wrong.

IMHO I would go for any GLS gen4 Di-D.

Re: Which Pajero?
Marius,

Here is the thing:

There is a R110 000 difference between the 3.8V6 and the 3.2DiD with similar km's. Granted the DiD is a year later model, but that won't impact on the running cost because the maint plan will expire on km's with the DiD at the same time as for the 3.8V6 (on date). The R1000/month that I pay extra for petrol vs diesel is comfortably offset by the R110k purchase saving on the V6. The extra 20l tank capacity will go some distance to ease the pain of the short range of my SWB.

The 3.8V6 is a brilliant motor and if the Gen4 is really 34kw up on the Gen3, then even more so in the car on my list. Top gear cruising of the DiD is a massive plus, but the smooth auto box takes the niggle out of that one as well for the V6. The better torque distibution of the Gen4 V6 will ease that pain even more.

Bottom line is: If I can find a DiD with similar kms and price as the V6, then I'll buy it every time.

Re: Which Pajero?
Roelf,

I agree with you 100%, the 3.8's price always looks good, that is the same reason why I ended up with petrol instead of DID, just figured the difference was too excessive to justify the variance as a once off, only time will tell though I guess. at R110k difference that is almost double the additional monthly petrol cost based on your calcs. I like the Gen4's, but my Gen3 has alot of miles yet to do and go before I get there, at least another 150k of miles and smiles. I haven't driven the 3.8 Gen4, but the 3.8 Gen3 is up on my 3.5 and if the Gen4 is up on the Gen3, that must be quite a nice power delivery IMO and would be a good consideration.

If you plan to keep the vehicle longer than say 4 or 5 years, then the DID makes alot more sense, but still a big variance, perhaps comparing the higher mileage Gen4 DID is another consideration, but definately glad we went for the LWB either way.

My vote is for the Gen4 3.8 petrol @R290k (OK I have a bias towards petrol, so take that into account too :-))

Cheers and happy hunting.

Re: Which Pajero?
I am mad about my 2 door Pajero and have never enjoyed owning a car as much as this one.

The rear seating is comfy and spacious, but the problem is the access is a serious embarassement when we load someone in the back. It is so bad that I sometimes climb in the back to spare myself the embarrasement of watching someone else do it.

Everytime I buy a Pajero I say this is the one I'm gonna keep for ever, hasn't happened yet. Maybe the next one :D

I'll tell you gents this, I have considered every option I could think of and asked around on other forums. Nothing, nada, zip can match a Pajero for ability, reliability and price. I'll just have to ride this Imperial parts issue and hope it is resolved soon.

I am pretty close to going for that red Pajero - been a while since I had a car of colour. Maybe that could be my reason for selling again 30 months down the road

Re: Which Pajero?
Hi there

I can relate to your quandry,as I'm prone to itching more often than required when it come's to changing cars (to the wife's dismay)

I have my Paj for about 18 months, done 20k km hassle free.

I've also been considering a change, but in all honesty, cannot find a vehicle as great as the Pajero. If i do sell,it will probably be for the Gen5

Good luck hunting.

PS:A prosperous new year for all you guys/gals out there.

That pic might be deleted due to it being Pajero porn! :D

I, too, am biased towards petrol so my vote is for the 3.8V6.
