I suppose it's something to get used to.
I have only once experience TC in my father's merc around a wet bend by accident by giving just a tad too much throttle - it was a split second but I hated it. In an instant I went cold as I thought the car was out of control but obviously it wasn't. The TC stepped in to kill the oversteer.
I was so used to be able to counter steer an oversteer that it made me "skrik my gat af". I drive at least 10km dirt every day, 5 days a week in a tail happy mazda 2.5 single cab so I know gravel and oversteer.
I suppose TC is safer once you get used to it but I still like to have the feel and control in my own hands - I'm very used to all sorts of gravel.
For example - Last weekend I drove back roads to visit my wife's family in Douglas (heading back Sunday again) - a very large portion is dirt and some of it is bad dirt. As I'm driving a long I can feel the car move on the loose surface and kinda floating. I'm used to this sensation and just go with it with small movements. If I had TC I'm sure it would have stepped in and make me feel all squimish as I no longer had control or feel (something the TC won't understand). But without the TC in my pajero, it's all down to me and it feels rock solid and so manageable when it does step out it's rear or front.
NB : My dad (4ePajero) told me he also prefers no TC on gravel.
