Below see the two gaskets that I scanned when I cleaned my EGR valve. You will need them to make blank-off flanges. They differ in size and I think one of each is all you need to remove and blank off the EGR valve and piping.

The small one will be needed on the intake manifold, while the bigger one will be needed on the other side of the motor when removing all the EGR pipes.

Otherwise, just remove the valve itself and blank of the pipes right next to each other.

Note: just print it on an A4 paper, normal size and it should be the exact same dimensions.

I am just about to service my 2005 3.2Did GLS. I have done the last 4 services myself - Just oil and filter changes. I also had to put in a new water pump last year.
Anyway, this service I am going to change the fuel filter, oil and air filters and oil obviously as well. Also going to put a new chain guide on.

My car is on +- 208000kms.

My question is: How do you blank off the EGR? Where do you get the plates to do it? Also - do you remove the pipe afterwards, or do you need to keep the pipe there? Do you use the paper templates as gaskets??

Are there benefits from blocking the EGR pipe off?

Just saw what you actually mean - those scans are to use as templates to get covers/blanks made specifically for closing the EGR pipe!

Also do a search for "EGR valve removal" there are lots of info on the web and forums.

Basically it will only prevent further clogging of your pipes and valves - it will not reverse the action. No performance improvement will be experienced - maybe only a better start up if the EGR valve and pipes were severely blocked or clogged up.

PS: Welcome to the forum pgoodier. You can use the gasket scans to make blank-off flanges if needed. New EGR valve cost R1000 at the dealers - as quoted to me this week.

I have temporarily blanked my EGR by simply disconnecting the vacuum pipe to the actuator and blocking it with a small bolt for testing purposes. I now need a more permanent solution, as I am happy with the results over the last 2 months.

I tried to print the picture MacjohnW posted to have a template made up, but I struggled with the scale, it wasn't correct. I then made my own tracing of a gasket to scale Johns drawing correctly; I had to re size it by 111% from Microsoft Paint, and printed a scale A4 drawing to PDF. You must print the PDF to 100%, no scaling (ie. fit to page, shrink to fit, etc.) to get the correct dimensions, double check off my pictures I have posted to be sure. I will have these cut from 6mm steel.
