HIgh lift jack or Air jack
Please can you help me out on the pro's and con's. I do not have HLJ points on my SWB and am not sure should I have them installed or should I purchase an air jack?

My next trip is Central Kalahari in March

Thanks guys

Re: HIgh lift jack or Air jack
Airjack.

Especially in very sandy conditions. While I have a high lift many times I would have preferred an air jack

Cons:
Bulky to pack
Prone to punctures, especially if badly packed
Does not work if you have a hole in the exhaust or the exhaust outlet is out of shape (as mine is)

The high lift is more versatile but can eat fingers, break bones and bugger up your vehicle if wrongly used.
Re: HIgh lift jack or Air jack
Airjack is not as simple to use as it would appear. In my case it could not lift a loaded Hilux with a caravan hitched. Secondly doing a test with my Pajero inside the garage I also abborted the test when my side step got damaged. I possitioned the airjack to mainly push on the chassis channel but until fully inflated it puts load on a very broad surface. It is not possible to direct the lift to a very specific spot and you can easily damage other components such as the diff mountings, stabilizers, sidesteps and floor panels. Never managed to use it successfully under any circumstance.
Having said that I saw many convincing demonstrations at various 4X4 shows where it worked wonderfully. All I am saying is it is not as simple to use as it seems and it too can cause damage to your vehicle.
