DIY - Water tank for 3rd row seat storage on LWB

I've taken out the 3rd row of seats, and I am thinking of having a water tank made to fit in that space.
One thing I'm wondering about is if it needs to be made of a hard plastic, or whether it can be made from a thick type rubber - like a type of bladder?
The other thing would also be then to make a new lid to fit ontop of the tank that will allow the holes for the pump wire and the water pipe to come out without having to lift the lid.
Any suggestions on where to have these items made?

Hi Karl,
Cloyd has made aa fuel tank for this space, which looks pretty cool. On my side I like flexibility and change is always the deal on my side. I use 2 jerry cans which fit in that space and still allow space for recovery gear, can use water and fuel there, fuel is not the best, but it works. I would suggest planning for battery, inverter, power points and water and take into account a packing system and a fridge into the boot. All of these change depending on the trip so we usually have 1 fuel and 1 water and spares in the rear, can also take 50l water very easily with drawer system. Can bring my setup along on 5th of Feb if you want, which works pretty well. Made my own new floor which was pretty easy as well to gain access to the bottom storage space.

Yes, please bring your cover / water tank (or do you put the water in a jerry can?)
Havent actually tried a jerry can... do you put some kind of rubber to cover the plastic at the bottom and sides of the space? I'm thinking corrugated gravel road will make the jerry cans damage the plastic?
Spoke to a guy at Frontrunner today who said it would be massively expensive to do a hard plastic mold design from scratch. Can apparently get standard sized bladder type water holders. But would be interested to see what cloyd did!

Hi Karl,
I use a combo of 1 or 2 jerrys, battery and recovery gear and some spares and compressor. 2 jerrys fit in perfectly, I have some sand recovery bags that I put around and below the jerry cans to prevent scratching and a towel on top used for deep river crossings or just to change a tyre and something to lie on on the hot dirt tracks. Fit the recovery gear and compressor there depending on the needs and usually take between 30 and 70 litres water, 2 x jerrys, 2 x 5l that fit in for easy and quick access in rear on side of packing system and a bladder.
I find that I need to chop and change depending on destination and needs and find this works very well for me.
Will bring the packing system and the gear that goes underneath on the 5th. 2 jerrys fit perfectly and easy to manage and get access to.

I have a drawer system in the back and a normal 55l Pioneer plastics tank that is strapped on the top of it just behind the second row of seats. I have plumbed the outlet to a tap that is gravity fed next to the one drawer, this has saved my bacon a few times.

Ideally I'd like to use the full area for a tank, and then drop a small submersible pump in there.
But the rear 2 seats wont be used, and I will be folding them forward. So the gravity option might be a good idea for a tank behind the seats.

Hi Karl,
Can't you just a standard tank like those at Outdoor Warehouse and modify it with some plastic welding
I have heard these guys who do plastic welding are quite good with that and should not cost an arm and a leg.

Hi Karl,
I will be at the GTG on coming Sunday and will bring some photogrphs of my two 100lit water tanks. They differ in shape and we use the one that suits us the best on that specific trip. You can also have a look at my "permanently" installed 100lit fuel tank and drawer system.
We will try and be there early on Sunday so that you can have a look before the start of all the fun.

Awesome, thanks! Looking forward to seeing your setup.
Will be there early!
Do you use a pump to get the water out?
