Has anyone replaced the upper & lower ball joints on earlier Pajero models (2000)? Is there anything specific to look out for? Does one need special tools to do the job?

It's similar to most double wish bone suspensions - a proper pain in the butt!

Jack up, put on trestles, strip front hubs off, remove, replace in reverse order (if you have the correct parts ;) ), have the alignment adjusted.

Sometimes you are lucky and you get the old ones off quite easily, sometimes it will take a combination of the following:
  • swearing
  • hitting with a FBH
  • skinned knuckles
  • believing that they can't actually come off
It's one of those jobs which I have done enough of to pass it on to the local suspension shop.

Whatever they ask, is a bargain!
