'97 Gen 2 SWB difflock?
Hey everyone..

Probably been asked a million times, but as a toy we recently acquired a '97 SWB 3l V6.. Nice toy, but lacks proper difflock at the back :D .

So, I've been told if I look for a blister model diff (around '99 model) it will fit without too much issue.

Comments / suggestions? (no ARB lockers are way too expensive  )

yes it will fit easily but make very sure the diff ratio is the same as the old one. If not you will have to grab both front and rear diffs from the donor car.

Hi Marius

I assume you've done this? How hard is it? If the ratio is the same, can I change just the diff-housing / 3rd member and connect the wiring?

Many questions sorry ;)

thanks

I havent done this but what i can gather from other forums is that its a straight swap. You will however need to transfer the electric pump that goes with the diff and wire it along with the sensors.

If you find a diff with a 4.875 ratio (and a diff lock of course), let me know, please!

Will do, looks like I also need a 4.875 with lock for the shorty to do the conversion. Can only start looking in March unfortunately, funds won't allow for anything to be done before then

OK, re-phrase that.

If you find TWO ..... :D

Hmmm,

Marius, I'm looking for one for my 96 LWB as well now,
Where would I see what Diff Ratio I'd need?
And if I cant find the right one, and therefore take both front and back, is there any adverse effect with changing the diff ratio?

We bit the bullet and had a ARB air-locker installed. Expensive, but on the first outing I was already happy I spent the money. Drive..*spin spin claw-for-traction*..engage locker..drive out :D

Hi pblaauw,
It's a surprise for me that 3,00 V6 was in version without rear diff lock. Do you have middle differential installed? If not, probably drivetrain is EasySelect version.
Btw. I have '97 SWB 3.5V6 with SuperSelect drivetrain (middle differential and rear diff-lock) and I decided to install ARB front air-locker with high volume air compressor as well.
Now Pajero has excellent performance.
