Roofrack for Gen 3 SWB?

Hi,

I'm off on an overlanding (and birding) trip at the end of this month. My fiance and I are heading to Namibia - Fish River, Sossusvlei (camping in desert en route), Swakopmund for Easter, and then Etosha for a week.

We're going to remove the back seats for extra space, but I think a roof rack will make life a bit easier.

I'm looking for a clamp-on type that can take a 25kg canvas ground tent, 2 camping chairs and maybe a gas bottle.

Some questions:
Can anyone recommend a clamp-on brand - I can only find Frontrunner, which seem to retail (in Joburg) for R4000?
Any ideas if they can be rented, or will I need to bite the bullet?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Cheers,
David

Just build your own, I did it and it cost me around R500 and now it is the way I want it. Just some savvy and very little tools and you have a nice product for little money. I also have a shortie, and just used it on my trip to the west coast, 5000km, and it worked a dream.

Please post a picture, and perhaps a "how to" guide, if applicable. I would like one as well.

Sorry guys, been real busy at work lately. Here is a pic of the roofrack in action, did not take pictures as I went along building it though, too much in a hurry to get it done for the trip.
Hope you can see from the pic, otherwise I will have to take another pic of just the frame.

Hi Johann,

What did you use for the frame of the rack?
looks like 75mm tubing?

a few pic of just the rack would be nice.

I dont have much savvy or the correct tools. How about coming to an agreement on a price and possibly making some for us unskilled people? I also have a shorty, dont you want to sell your rack?
