Help: Straightening my steering wheel

Hello Again!

Late last year i had my wheels rotated, like a conscientious Paj driver should! BUT, my steering wheel sits left of middle now.

Last week i had my alignment and balancing etc done, including 're-setting' of my suspension (WTHeck is that?) and i specifically asked the folks at TWT to 'straighten my steering wheel' which they insisted would be done.

It wasn't. Is this something easy to do on my own? Its such a schlepp taking time of to go back and moan like a drain, rather do it myself.

It's a Gen4 model. Help will be appreciated by way of beer if we meet up at (afterwards) a trail or the like.

RedCat the non-mechanic!

if it was a non Airbag wheel with no electrics other than the hooter I would say yes, give it a try but the Gen 4 has a steering angle sensor, remote buttons for radio, airbag etc.

The risk of reassembling it the wrong way may hinder airbag deployment and vehicle stability control function.

Take it back and make a bit of a fuss so they pay attention this time. Then after they're done take a drive and if it's not sorted take it back immediately.

PS : Make sure they don't try to take the wheel off. The steering angle sensor is the biggest danger.

They need to center the steering wheel and redo the alignment from the suspension point of view.

RedCat,

Take it back to TWT and make a BIG noise. The "engineers" are to lazy to do a proper job. To correct the steering is as easy as falling of a chair when one is p*ssed.

When I go to have my Pajeros settings done, I go down into the pit and insist that the "engineer" set the markings in the middle of the green arch. That is where it is correct - they set it somewhere in the green and that is NOT the correct setting. I always clear it beforehand with the management that it is the way that I want it done. I also make use of TWT in Montana, Pretoria for the adjustment.

Cloyd.
