Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
Hello Everybody,
This is to make happy some of lucky guys having the same story as mine, you may have a good turn on the end.
I bought my Pajero a year ago second hand,2003 3.2 DiD swb, with a relatively high millage, but in excellent condition inside ,outside and under the bonnet like new.(and black)
The only item did not lined up with the general condition of the vehicle,is the tires. They where worn but i decided to run them for a little while more, until save some money to buy some nice new set.
Using the car for a couple of months I could not help admit that the car developed the typical "shu-shu" noise coming from the left front wheel direction.
I have read just about everything on the net about this condition ,all espect about this problem and the way to exactly detect it,how to try an correct with tricks....switch into low, high, forward, backward, upside down gears ,everyting but the noise stayed and started to be really annoying.
Beside I started to get sick feeling from it everytime sit in the car,and turn the radio really loud to buffer the noise.I could see myself already to pay heavy bills to end the un-avoidable hassle with this Mother of bearing unit.I already prepared to divorce, fight and starve to save money for the issue.
An then one day, for an un-significant story,a silly question, one day my Wife ended up to tun into a repair workshop to pick the brain one of the willing mechanic in service.
The "By the way"ended up with a "just finished matric"
looking young fellow lend this purpose, to sit in the car and listening the"noise" driving around in the parking.
His immediate reply was that "this is worn shocks"!
Well, this was a news made me laughing violently, specially after that my Wife told me from whom it is originated.
But soon after, in months, the time arrived to go for the tyre, and decided that the shock is also going with it,while we are at it,the car deserving it after 230.000 km on the road.
So I did the changes, and at the first moment of the test drive I nearly fell out of the car.NO NOISE,!THE NOISE IS GONE,By-By NOISE NO MORE RADIO,NO DIVORCE AND I CAN EAT AGAIN!!!!
CONCLUSION,GUYS DO NOT PANIC! WHEN YOU THINKS EVERYTHING IS LOST AND TRIED, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CHANCE, IT MY BE YOUR SHOCKS!
It is wort one more test before going for the nasty bearings.
Ok, it is not cheap alternative but our hart rather prefer new shocks and the long time dreamed set of fancy tyres ....

(and do not discount the small appie looking fellas they may have the right ideas)
Good luck
Peter

Cool, I am glad that you managed to sort the noise out.

However if your bearings do decide to pack up, all is not lost. Instead of buying the bearing/hub assembly for R 2200-00 from the agents, you can buy a Timken hub assembly from Masterparts in Cape Town for R750-00 each.

Here is the link:

Masterparts Wheel Hubs

I also have the Timken Catalogue in .pdf, with the part numbers. It is about 1.2MB. I am a bit of a noob here so I am not sure how to post it.

Enjoy that 'Jero!!!
Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
Thanks Stephan, I will remember this when I need to replace the hubs infront.

Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
From what I can gather, the Timken part numbers are as follows:

Front hub: TMHA590145

Rear hub: TMHA590039

Most large bearing suppliers should have it, or be able to get it.

Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
I am almost sure that the Triton 2007- front bearing and hub is the same as the Gen 3 Pajero , I know everyone uses different numbers and codes for them, but as far as I can see they look very similar but not 100% sure

Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
Took the Automatic in Yesterday afternoon to be fitted with some new rear bearings ordered from Masterparts at a fraction of the price from stealers.
Ordered the Bearing hubs paid and delivered in 3working days.

Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
Rob (Civils) in East London has just called me.
His Gen3 suffered a front wheel bearing failure.
Imperial (via Ronnies) estimates delivery in weeks (IIRC).
Masterparts are out of stock as well.

Rob needs a hub (or even both) urgently!

Who bought replacement part recently, and from whom?

Re: Oh ,the front wheelbearings.....
Hi All

I am looking for the front left wheel hub. I have read all the info on the forum and contacted Masterparts. They are not even aware of the part and say they do not list it.
Can anyone give me more information as to what branch and contact person as well as their part number.

Thank you
Martyn
