Auto box on 3,2 Di-D Gen3 overheating / leaking oil.

I had a problem over the December holidays while towing my boat from Bloemfontein to Langebaan. The vechile slipping and traction control off lights would come on simultanously and this would cause the vechile to loose power.
I took it to the dealer in Bfn but was very dissapointed in the standby machanic and left. I checked the gearbox oil level and found that the dipstick was dry !
This was strange as the vechile has no leaks, do they normally use transmission oil ?
I decided to take it to a gearbox specialist in Klerksdorp to replace the oil and filter as this was not done and the vechile has done 240 000 km already. Without any problems !
When fetching it from the mechanic I was told that the oil is still clean, and that they decided to only add oil and leave the filter.
The vechile was 100% again, even responded immediately when selecting reverse first thing in the morning. I even placed a comment saying that my problem was sorted out by filling oil to the correct level again. Having said this, I never checked the level again, trusted the mechanics ! Big mistake !
My whife uses the car daily from home to work and back, only in town, and not very far. No problems experienced in all that time. We took it to the Kalahari and back twice, not towing anything, without any problems, no lights ever came on.
Then, last week-end I towed a rather big trailer to the Kalahari, although not loaded goiing to the Kalahari.
All was fine for the first 250km and then just outside of Vryburg the traction control light off and slipping light started again, and the engine looses power !
I stopped at Komtiekie Shell garage outside Vryburg to fill up with diesel and looked underneath the car !
I was shocked to see oil dripping from the gearbox and drops on the back door of the car. The entire underside of the car was wet from the oil, whithin a shor while I had a rather large puddle of oil underneath the car.
It was getting late and I decided to drive on after checking the oil level in the gearbox and found that it was way above the high level mark with the engine idling.
I conclusion was that the mechanic over filled the gearbox and I did not notice anything because this was the first time that I towed again after December.
The lights came on again about twice after I started driving again, I was sure that we where goiing to stand on the way to Kuruman and said to my whife that I am so dissapointed and cross that I am goiing to drive this gearbox, IN SY M...R !
But this never happened and the lights stayed off all the way to the farm, this was another 200 km. I looked underneath the car the next day, and no oil leaking !
We loaded the trailer rather heavy and on our way back I was worried the entire way,but we had no lights come on or any problems all the 450 km to Klerksdorp.
I went back to the mechanic again, and he very calmly said that they might have over filled the gearbox with oil !
Could this have caused any dammage or would the gearbox simply because it was working much harder towing have heated up more and pushed the x-tra oil out at the breather, does it have a breather, or did it blow a seal of some kind ?
Without towing now, it feels that the gearbox is slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear when changing !
Should I drain all the oil and replace the filter and fill with Mitsu oil ? Wouldn't do harm as this has still not been done ?
Worried that the gearbox might be damaged by over filling ?
