Hi. Has anyone successfully fitted an aftermarket difflock to the standard 2.6 petrol Gen 1 LWB? Which one was used?

Or, can a post 1998 Colt bakkie OEM difflock be tranplanted into the Pajero's diff?

Thanks
Cobus

AFAIK, there is no aftermarket diff lock for the rear diff on the Gen1.

As long as the ratios are the same, you can transplant any diff into your Gen1.

(The Gen1 2.6 came with either 4.625 or 4.875 diff ratios.)

You might have to modify the following:
  • Prop shaft
  • hand brake cable
  • axle mounts
  • brake proportion valve
If you find a 4:875 diff with a diff lock, and you don't need it, let me know!

Keep in mind that my mechanical skills is VERY limited. Would you not be able to use the existing crown wheel and bolt that onto the actual diff lock, just replacing the existing sun gear and planet pinion, thereby keeping to the original diff ratios?

Only if you are very, very lucky!
  • The chances of the innards being the same are very slim.
  • If it was that easy, it would have been a known mod. (all over the Mitsu world)!
