Hi,

can anyone give pointers as to how I get the back door of a 1999 LWB pajero open. The vehicle was invovled in a small offroad accident and ended up parked backwards in some trees, the rear door took a good knock but the door worked twice after the impact. now the door does not release when you open the handle.

any ideas?

thanks

Try pusing it close while opening it ,mine is also sometime not willing to open on demand and need some eford.

Or take it to panelbeater let them open it.

Hope it works :)

Thanks! will try that tonight. I'm thinking about stripping the panels off the inside and trying to release it manually. Probably what a panelbeater will do?

You can open it by taking of the back door trim from the inside. You only need to open it wide enough to get your hand in, carefully cut the plastic dust sheet and pull the latch

How the trim hangs together

You will need to pull the rod attached to the motor (4) downwards to release the door catch.

If the door catch itself is jammed or bent you might have a problem, but usually its just a case of alignment

On mine the plastic handle/mechanism above the number plate became brittle and broke. Got a another one from the breakers but needs to be installed by removing the inside panel as above. Not too dificult.

Thanks SimonB,

Worked like a charm, got the door open! Lubed it all up and adjusted the latch and it's working perfectly!
