My 3.2Did got an irritating rattling\clanking noise on idle only, clutch in or out.
Its coming from the gearbox belhousing and getting worse.
Any advice?

I had the same problem on my BT 50 and it was the dual mass fly wheel.The inner part came loose from the outer part and the causes a rattling noise on idle. The fly wheel cost R13000.00 including labour and new pressure plate and clutch plate. Its best to replace the two latter parts as well.

That clunking noise... It WAS the duelmass flywheel... I left it until it gave in. Original parts quote was R21 000 (parts only, dmflyweel and clutch kit). Way above my spending capasity. Pajero stood for a week and then I found a guy in PTA North that said he could help me for much less. He converted the old ruined flywheel to a solid one (took out the inner components, welded the front and back together and balanced it), fitted a new clutch kit and replaced the rear main crank shaft seal and the inputshaft seal. All for a quater of the price. Labour included. Done about 5000km since and the Pajero is running like a dream! No problems.
I have the guy's number if any one is intrested.

I have a 2000; 3.2 Did. Rattle on starting; not idling.
Still running well etc BUT doing GhalgadiEtosha etc in April and don't want problems.
Any advice for good workmanship and deal in Cape Town area?
So far have a R23 K and a R30 k quote. Brad.

What is the mileage on your car? If it is around the 250000km mark I would say you should look at replacing the Dual mass flywheel. Other option is to buy the DMF and carry it along untill it pops. Any good service place should be able to fit for you.
