Gerrit is kindly donating me a set of rear coil springs from his patrol for my Paj.

Has anyone replaced the springs on their own? What needs to be done? If the springs need compression, what does one use to do this?

A workshop which can do it !

You need spring compressors
Even if you have / borrow these, it is usually a pig of a task.
You usually have to loosen the sway bars, swear at everything and everybody, pinch your fingers etc. etc.

Have it done !

Sigh. Workshops require that which is in short supply... Money

No No the gen2 rear axle drops down far enough to remove the springs just by loosening the shocks. Playing around with spring compressors is a dangerous thing to do and a recipe for injury if you are not familiar with these toys.

Start off by jacking up the pajero to a good height and support the vehicle under the chassis and not the axle. Remove the wheels (it helps to loosen the nuts before lifting) and place the jack under the axle. Loosen one side of the shocks and allow the axle to come down slowly. You should have the springs almost fall out and with a bit of shaking they will just pop out.

Refit the new springs and just reverse the dismantling procedure.

The guys at 4x4 mega literally took 15 min to replace shocks and springs on my baby when I fitted the OME
