Hi everybody,
In the latest 4x4 magazine there is a deal whereby if one buys 4 rancho shocks (those that you can adjust with a transmitting device from the inside of the vehicle) one gets the transmitter free. They usually cost an extra +- R4.500. This deal expires at the end of November 2012.
My Blister SWB 3.0 GLS V6 petrol has done over 200000 kms and as far as I know they still have the original shocks. I can't detect that they are shot but with this kind of mileage they probably won't last much longer. I'm therefore strongly considering going for this deal but before I do I thought I might get some advise from members of the forum. Can anybody assist with the following:
(1) Does anybody have any experience with this brand and if anybody has how do the shape up with other brands ie OME etc.
(2) The "blister" doesn't seem to have an official generation model no. although we refer to it as the gen2.5. These shocks are only available for the gen2 and gen3 but no gen2.5. Would I be correct to assume that the gen2 and gen2.5 have the same shocks or am I totally wrong with this assumption.
Any input will be much appreciated.

I wonder how that works!? Is it battery powered? Or do you need to connect the shock to the car battery?

I fitted OME shocks to my previous tug (4Runner) and they were great, a huge improvement over the original equipment shocks. After 150,000 km I thought they might be getting tired (100km a day on dirt roads to and from work and paddock work on the farm) so fitted new Rancho adjustables. What a waste of lots of $$$

The new Rancho were no where as good as the old OMEs. Just didn't control as well, especially over corregated roads. Also the adjustment feature was hopeless as there was no way of knowing the setting you set. The setting knob just went round and round with no indicator - this was just ridiculous.

So, OMEs are great, and I wouldn't fit Rancho to a kids billy cart

For my Paj NW I will be fitting Bilsteins as these get rave reviews from everyone who uses them (and post on the Aussie Pajero forum). 2nd choice would be OME of course.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm not too sure how the remote actually works but reading on the internet they seemed to be well spoken of with a lot of Americans praising them. I had a chat to a local who had them fitted to his double cab Toyota and he is very impressed. He fitted the rancho RS9000. At the local Super Quick a quote of R4550, fitted, which seemed reasonable and I was very tempted but since my shocks are still OK I have decided to keep them until they have to be replaced. Maybe by then there will be more info on their performance, durability etc.to make an informed decision.
