Hi Gents,
I have a very strange intermittent fault on my Pajero!
When i leave home in the morning to go to work i drive the 800m dirt road section and then climb on the A1 seperating Gaborone and Francistown.
When i get on the tar road the car develops a terrible vibration ( not balancing ) no matter what speed i travel at. I have tried isolating certain thingsby shifting the car into neutral or putting on the brakes but the vibration continues.
STrangely though if i bring the car to a complete stop and then pull off again the vibration immediately disappears and will not come back the rest of the day.
The car must come to a complete stop - if i brake and accelerate again without stopping it will continue vibrating.
i have driven the same stretch of road at other times of the day so it is not the road surface either.
Tires are new and have only done about 15000km
Any ideas will be much appreciated!!!
look underneath the car at the rear propshaft. You will find a dynamic damper block. Take it off (IIRC 2x 144 nuts/bolts)and go for a drive and see what it does.
Hi Glen and Marius
When I did some mud driving and just gravel road in November last year, I had a horrible vibration from the front end. felt as if the whole wheel assembly was loose and was wobbling around as soon as I was on the tar.
stopped and checked everything but could not find anything wrong. when I pulled away again, it was gone and has not returned again.
I will keep tracking this post.
wierd

yes, you can leave it off. I took mine off and it made no difference to the car. Some that have removed it report more vibration, some less, and some no difference at all (like myself)
From the Australian forum
"Dynamic damper on transfer case
Removed damper as per HOTLINE FIX NS23-01
Warranty"
This was for a 2007 V6, a comment is made in the same thread that this "FIX" exists for GEN3 as well, seems the dynamic damper was a mitsu attempt at getting rid of vibration issues but it never did the trick and in some cases makes things worse.

Hey Guys,
I have been away so i haven't had a chance to take the damper off.
I looked under the car yesterday evening and had no idea what i should be removing - should i take a pic and post it so you can show me or is it easy enough to describe.
Thanks
Glen

Hi Everyone,
I am sorry i never replied with the fix.
Strangely the problem was solved when I replaced my tires. They still had at least 50% tread but the problem went away when i replaced them.
I was running Genereal Grabber AW's
Regards
Glen

Hi Guys.
I am new on the block.
My 3.2 DiD SWB Pajero, 2003 model with 307 000km on the clock, also develops a strange vibration on pull away, but only when the drive train components are warm. We are Caravanners and this strange vibration only occurs after app. 300km plus of towing the van.
The vibration is only noticeable on pull away and for 2 or 3 seconds.
To me it sounds like the prop shaft rubber at the rear diff is busy loosing it's rigidity and the extra torque on pull away then throws the prop shaft out of balance for a couple of seconds.
Can it be the damper rubber too?
As soon as the vehicle cooled down, for an hour, the vibration does not occur.

Hallo everyone,
We also have a 2003 3.2 shorty with 210,000km and towing a xcape offroad caravan and we are also getting the same vibration on pull away and when turning left.A tyre replacement did not change anything.
Anybody out there that can help?
Thanks
Oompie
