During our trip through Namibia the ignition switch froze one day for no apparent reason. No matter how many times I wiggled, pulled out and replaced the key, the ignition refused to budge. Well two hours later I got the thing to work. From that day on I have had no problems, that is until today.
Started this morning with no issues at all. Went to two places, parked and started twice, no issue. Got back home and parker her in the garage. Walked into the house and the phone rang, a gearbox in one of our factories packed up and I have to go out to diagnose the cause before they fit a replacement. Got back into the Pajero, inserted the key and tried to turn, Nothing! I tried it a few times, but the key refuse to turn, same old problem.
Took one of my other cars and decided to call the dealers tomorrow. This ignition issue have to be solved, before it conks out in the middle of nowhere. The Pajero is only 3 months old, so I am quite intrigued to see how efficient the dealers will be. Hope they don't just nurse the symptoms (which i can do myself) and replace the complete ignition lock.
Problems like these can happen to the best manufacturers out there, but the telling thing will be how the dealers handle the problem.
Great, great service at Imperial George! Called this morning and they made a plan to fit my vehicle in. I explained the issue to them in detail with supporting video footage since this is one of those "ghosts" that only comes out when it's safe, but go into hiding the moment a mechanic gets close to the vehicle.
This afternoon I got a phone call from them saying that they will be replacing both the lock and the barrel assembly, but since this is the first time something this happened there are no parts available in SA. My vehicle will be washed and i can collect it tomorrow. The parts should be here in two weeks than I have to take it back in so that they can fit it.
Wow! Thank you Imperial George. I am one very-very happy client.
