Active Stability an Taction Controls

Just hoping someone can help me with this problem.

I travel a lot mainly long open roads and my 2006 Did SWB has 263,000km on the clock.

The past two weeks sometimes when passing slow trucks or accelerating up a hill and the auto box kicks down to 4th gear - the Active Stability control and Active Traction Control lights come on for a short time. They go off immediately the vehicle changes back into to gear or I lift my foot of the accelerator pedal slightly.

I asked Brooklyn Mitsubishi what it could be and they said it was my diesel pump. This does not make sense if I can accelerate as hard as I like (because I then did the test)and the lights don't come on.

Any advice please a I am concerned I will get stuck soon.

Thanks

What condition are your tyres? Are all the same size and more or less evenly worn down?
Do you drive in 4h or 2h. If 2h check if it happens as well while in 4h. You can engage and disengage 4h safely up to around 100km/h when you see a possible chance for testing coming up.

Thanks Cats

The tyres are at a similar state of wear and have beeen like this for some time now.

I usually drive in 2h on open roads. I will try 4h this Friday when coming home to Pretoria. I am just surprised because this is my normal style of driving and has been for years now.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Those lights light up momentarily whenever a fault is registered by the ECU. This happens for ANY fault, not necessarily faults on the ABS/TC.

Search around on the forum for the instructions on how to read any fault codes present.

Mine had exactly the same symptoms some time ago. Ended up having the fuel pump reconditioned at Alan Black (via Mitspro) Have done two trips since without any reoccurrence.

Thank you Johan. Looks like the agent might have been right here. So looks like I am in for a big number here.

Really appreciate your comment!

If your car is out of warrantee, rather take it to Alan Black directly for an assessment. As far as I know, the dealers use them in any case.

Also have a look at this thread: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... MAP+sensor
Might be another possibility!

Good luck!

Just a word of caution. I had an idling problem before on a 2005 3.2Di-D and it was also diagnosed as the pump. I found it hard to believe as there was no performance issues or smoking evident. The Mitsubishi Technician showed me the error codes on his handheld and it pointed to the diesel pump, so it was no wrong doing on his side. I did a lot of research on the internet and one of the suggestions was to disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for approximately 2 hours. I did this, reconnected the battery, waited for the system check on the display in the car, selected the Diesel LWB and started the car. The problem was gone and has been ever since. I discussed this with Mitsubishi and they rechecked the error codes, and all was clear. If I were you, I would ask Mitsubishi to clear all error codes and then disconnect the battery as above.

Just be aware that the ASTC light will remain on until you have driven a while on a straight line after the battery is reconnected.

Good luck with this. You have nothing too loose.

Thank you to all that have responded. The advice has been great and I have set up a list of actions to resolve my problem starting with the simple ones (that I can do) to the more expensive options.

My first action was to again drive as I do weekly and test the 4 wheel option.

Well. Nothing happened. And nothing has happened since. Don't know why and what has changed. I have now done the trip 4 times since last chatting and nothing has happened on any of these trips. I will keep monitoring and let you all know should there be a change.

Thanks again.

On mine I need to go above 100km/h for a while for it to turn off after battery disconnect.

Didn't know Gauteng had a long enough down-hill to get a diesel to go that fast :D
