Open end pipe. Should it be like this?

Dear members

After receiving my Gen 2 3000V6 SWB back from the guys that have replaced the chain in the tansfer case, I have noticed this open ended pipe at the rear of the transfer case selection lever on the top of the gearbox. I do not think it should be like this? Any advice? The gearbox guys is not so sure either?

can you trace it to where the other end goes?

Unfortunately NO, there is not enough space to get into to see where it is leading to. I have to work on the garage floor and being 140kg and 6ft tall doesnt make it any easier.

Any chance that its the TC breather? (4ePajero should know?)
I do not have the same model so can't compare it to mine.
