Whisteling sound

Hallo all
i have a 1996 3.5l lwb when driving about half throttle i can hear a whisteling sound coming from under the car at about 2-3000 rpm sounds like air excaping from a very small hole.
took the car to the local exhaust place and they said my exhuast if fine.
plzzzz help

I'm no mechanic, but if its under the car, and audible only during a specific rev range, then it is most probably the exhaust. Could be the wheel bearings, but that sounds more like a low pitched hum, rather than a high pitched whistle....Did the exhaust shop merely check for leaks / holes, or did they properly examine all the silencers / resonators attached to the exhaust. Reason I ask is that a few years back, my Jetta VR6 suffered something of a similar malady. Turned out that the baffles inside the third silencer (it was a 4 box system) had come lose and was rattling around, although the outside of the silancer itself was perfect :shock: . If you are still stumped, its worth a look.....

If its a diesel, it could be the turbo whistling ;)
