Noise in drivers door - sound like tin foil flapping

Since I bought my Pajero 3.2 LWB I had had a annoying noise in the drivers door which sounds like a tin foil label flapping in the wind. You can hear it when traveling on the open road or freeway from about 80km/h. I have removed the door panel and checked for any type of label that could flap but found nothing. I have cable tied anything that looks like it could cause the noise, but no success.
I also thought is sound a bit like fluid in a pipe (as it is metallic in sound) but cannot find any pipes in the door pillar. The only pipes I have found are the drain pipes from the sun roof but it is not from these.
Has anyone else had this problem? and if so did you find a solution.

Not sure about the drivers door part but have heard from heat shield on exhausts causing similar noise. Also heard of windscreen trim causing flapping noise on certain instances. Is there any plastic trim on the outside of your door? Have you checked the mirror as a possible culprit? When exactly does the noise occur?
I will keep on searching though as I am convinced that I read about a similar story to yours somewhere on this or another forum.

Had a similar problem once on the Triton double cab. More pronounced at certain speed and when the wind direction from left to right over the nose of the vehicle. The sound we were hearing was a windsurge. After long investigation and tests revealed a leak in the sealing between the engine bay and the wheel arch. Was sorted by Mitsubishi Tygerberg.

Hi Cats
I posted the same question on the 4x4 Community Forum about 2-years ago but none of the proposed solutions helped resolve the problem.
The noise level does not change depending on speed, it is just irritating. It is a faint noise, best described like a metallic label or leaf flapping in the wind. I have checked all under the car and running boards but nothing that would appear to be the culprit. The dealers could also hear the noise but could never pinpoint the source. It is definitely around the drivers door area or maybe the pillar between drivers door and rear passenger RHS only.
It was worth a try asking on this forum to see if anyone else had had a similar problem and possibly found a solution.

I think what I would do to identify the cause of the noise or at least the area is buy myself a roll of duct tape and tape up all the shut lines on the body, bonnet gaps, around the windscreen, side windows, gaps, pivots on the side mirrors etc and then go for a drive.
If the noise has gone, stop regularly and remove sections of tape at a time and by process of elimination, find the 'zone' where the noise comes from.
My 2c worth

Thanks Dirty Boy, I will give it a try when I get some time and post my feedback.
I still believe there is a simple answer to the problem but it is difficult to drive and have your head down listening for the noise
